MUNICIPAL PROJECTS UPDATE:
Member Young discussed the history of assuming the costs of $15,500 for the shelving,
telephone and other miscellaneous DPW expenses. He stated that these costs were
covered under the assumption that these expenses would be reimbursed from the Town
Budget. There was discussion concerning the renovations to the Central Fire Station.
Chairman Liddick discussed the project funds that were remaining from the Town Hall.
After reviewing the scope it is the understanding that it would be difficult to authorize
moving forward with the Central Fire Station Project with the funds that are available.
Mr. Boucher stated that there would be funds available however, he would only like to
ask for money once. The decision deadline is set for August 1, 1997, the Committee has
asked for an extension. Member Feeley stated that we couldn't authorize the contract

adoption of a new building code. He stated that the bidding climate is not as good now as
it was two years ago.
Chairman Liddick discussed the project schedule and felt that the items are very relevant.
He stated that his number one concern is the seismic issue. Mr. Davey relayed that the
two schools are different. The high school additions were designed as new freestanding
buildings. Mr. Davey has to do a redistribution of the loads and recalculate the
connections. This new code applies when the lateral distribution system is modified.
According the code Mr. Davey is required to write a report.

independent structure however the cafeteria and the library are not independent
structures.
Mr. Battles stated that the changes in the seismic code requirements also affect the
mechanical portion of the building.
School Committee Chair Giordano stated that he would like Keyes to review the plans
and documents with all the members. Chairman Liddick stated that this is also important
for him as well. He feels that it is critical that the documents are reviewed prior to bid.
Member Young stated that he would like to have the bids prepared so that they can be
presented to Town Meeting so that additional funds can be obtained. Member Young
suggested that the base bid would be QMS and the bus loop and the alternate would be
the High School. The School Committee, Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee
need to work together towards a bid date. Members Young stated that the other
committees need to set their, policy concerning this project. It was the consensus that the

project.
