ROBINSON SCHOOL PROJECT:
F Member Young asked if the landscape architect has reviewed the site. Mr. Ashton stated
that this has not been reviewed as of this date. This landscape issue has been ongoing for
over three weeks. This portion of the contract will need to be itemized.
Mrs. Sandy Levine, resident, questioned the way the building got built. Mr. Emil
Giordano and Member Young— reviewed the building and design process, bid and
specification development. There was a specific review team set-up to work on
programming. Mrs. Levine asked about design faults. Mrs. Levine brought up her
concern with the hallway and the size of the toilets and urinals. The architect stated that
the toilet design is based on the use of the area at the time of the program. Mrs. Levine
asked why we are using this style when we haven't done this in our other school
buildings. The architect stated that because toilet was specified due to the requirements
of the architectural barrier board. The barrier board addresses several different issues of
toilet height. Mrs. Levine stated that she was here as an individual not as a spokesperson
for the School. Chairman Liddick stated that the issues should be addressed through the
proper channels. It was the consensus of the Committee to have the toilet room fixtures
redesigned.
Mrs. Levine also was concerned with the windows in the corridor adjacent to the gym.
She stated that there was outside access for fresh air. She stated that there is problem
with the existing ventilation system because it is poor and it shuts off during the
afternoon. She stated that there is only one air return that has not been cleaned in 30
years. Mrs. Levine told the committee about an incident with the equipment and diesel

fumes. She stated that if there were operable windows in the new corridor then she could
have ventilated the area. The committee stated that the architect was looking into
plantings and film coating to be used to cool the area. Mr. Moretti stated that he would
review the present air ventilation system and maintenance. Mr. Ashton stated that this is
the only area in the entire building that doesn't have operable windows.
Mrs. Levine also asked about storage for her equipment. The room that was designated
for gym equipment storage has become a utility room. The old gym had an office and
storage room the new gym has an office with a very small area for storage. The architect
stated that the storage has been greatly diminished by the relocation of the utilities. He
stated that an addition could be added off the gym for additional storage.
Mrs. Levine thanked the committee for listening to her concerns. She thanked all the
parties involved with the construction of the building for being able to function for the
past year and one half.
The Committee toured the construction site and reviewed the work in progress.
FUTURE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS:
There was discussion regarding the schedule for the upcoming projects. The goal of the
committee is to have the bid documents in hand for the annual spring town meeting.
The Committee discussed the parking situation at the school complex. There was review
of the bus loop at the high school.
The committee reviewed the change orders for the Robinson School. They went through
each of the items and discussed ways to eliminate any additional costs in the future
construction projects.
• C/O #2 — make sure there are adequate benchmarks for all the bounds in the site
survey.
• C/093 — be more specific to insure that two adequate means of access are maintained
and approved have this approved by the fire department.
• C/O# 4,5,9,10,11, — relate to lack of geotech information — extra costs for size of
rocks, Do we want to determine the unit prices or let the contractor determine them
for us. The present unit prices for the Robinson School are sufficient.
• C/O #6 — Roof bids — only two were submitted there was questions regarding the
additional costs for blocking, framing and flashing. There was a question due to an
overlap of work. The general contractor will own blocking. All the roof details will
match the Robinson School.
• C/097 — abatement the Ahera report will be available in the specifications (get copies
for committee review from Bob Gurek)
• C/O #8 — Plumbing — there were many extra's due to overlay problems — some items
were shown on both sets of plans. These change orders amounted to 15% of all extra

contractors are responsible from street to the

project plans
• C/O #10 — Additional fills — review boring logs — additional testing may be necessary
• Drywells and drainage in parking lots — review all parking lots
• The hardware issue needs to be addressed and clarified. This was a late
determination on this building and we must be sure that level handles are included in
future projects/ The committee commented that the hardware should fit the door and
that all doors are included in the door schedule. Review coordination issues.
• All schools must have one -inch conduits for future voice/data expansion. We will
forward the specification to the architect once we receive them from the
Superintendent's of Schools.
