SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING: The MBC attended the School Committee
meeting at 8:30 PM in the Town Hall. Rich Feeley and Jim Liddick spoke on behalf of
the MBC. John Moretti, Superintendent opened discussion regarding various school
expenses that the School Administration is requested to be included as part of the
construction budget. Mr. Moretti distributed a hand out showing $598,400.00 proposed
from SBAB (construction budget) and $180,000.00 from the School Foundation Reserve
Account. Mr. Moretti requested that $2-300K of this amount be encumbered now, as he
is concerned that, with the number of change orders he has seen to date, this money will
not be available at the end of the job. Mr. Feeley responded on behalf of the MBC noting
that the Committee could not support any additional expenses to the current construction
budget at this time. Mr. Feeley stated that the Town must have monies reserved to cover
any unknown expenses that may occur during the approved scope of work at QMS &
MHS. Mr. Liddick commented that the construction budget already includes allocations
for Technology ($57,000.00) and School Furnishings ($200,000.00). It was the
suggestion of the MBC, that the School Dept. look to the Capital Improvements process
and explore all other means to supplement the deficiencies. Should the renovation
projects come in under budget, the MBC will work with the School Dept to fill any voids
at that time.
