Jim May stated that the Construction Schedule as submitted appears to be in order. Rich Feeley asked that Mr. May review the schedule thoroughly for potential errors. Mr. May commented that length of J.T. Callahan `s contract, is denoted by the date of substantial completion, rather than an actual number of days. The estimated completion date is Sept. 2000. Paint Sub Bid — Jim May reported preliminary results of the paint bid opening. Commercial Painting was the apparent low bidder with a bid amount of $155,995.00. Comments were made that the bid was very low. Paul Letendre noted that the Contractor would ask for a bond from Commercial Painting. Jim May will review all bids and forward letter of recommendation. Mr. May noted that the Town owns selection of contractor, however J.T. Callahan will write contract. Abatement Contract — Rich Feeley questioned the status of the abatement contract for the high school. Paul Letendre reported that J.T. Callahan has signed the contract with A Best Company for asbestos abatement. Mr. Letendre noted that some abatement work has begun. Paul Letendre commented that the asbestos identified in green house in the specs., under panels, would be covered under the square ft. allowance. Letter coming from Ammar Dieb, Universal Engineering. Paul Letendre to put forward a cost estimate to the MBC. Flag Pole — Walter Parker noted that the existing flag pole at MHS does not work properly. Jim May noted that J.T. Callahan only owns relocation of pole in their contract. The suggestion to replace the flag pole was put on hold. Buildings & Grounds Office — Walter Parker commented that replacement of the flooring in his office was not included in base contract. Condition of carpet is very poor and in need of replacement. Suggestion was made to replace with industrial grade carpet. Issue pending. Specialty Items/Sanitary Receptacles — Jim May noted that the location of fixtures is not identified in drawings. Estimated cost to purchase new approximately $1,100.00. Mr. Parker noted that the School Dept. has some surface mount sanitary receptacles in storage that could be used at MHS. Walter Parker to confirm a count and respond to Jim May. South Wing Front Windows — Jim May reported that where the addition meets the existing school, specs indicate removal of windows/sill and in -fill with brick. Windows contain asbestos material, which would require abatement. Proposal was suggested by Jim May to leave the windows in place and block the wall on the inside and outside of window, leaving the window in place. Mr. May noted that seismic retrofit is needed at this location. Rich Feeley suggested that a notation of the change be indicated on the as built drawings. Freezer Food Storage — Walter Parker commented that freezer storage has been arranged. Jim May noted that the Town owns removal of freezer equipment in storage. Paul Letendre to provide a list to Walter Parker noting items to be disposed. Pumps_— Mr. May noted that Wallace Floyd is waiting for drawings to come from Keyes to replace pipe. Exterior doors — Walter Parker asked if doors are being replaced. Jim May noted that all exterior doors are schedule to be replaced with hollow metal doors. Cracked brick — Jim May responded to David Young's concern regarding a crack noticed in the brick near the auditorium. Mr. May commented that the original high school building was constructed without control joints. There is no expandable fill in joints. Mr. May stated opinion that the crack is due to thermal expansion and contraction and is not structural. Crack will be sealed. Summer use of Gym Area — Discussion re: memo from Ed Rosa agreeing to allow programs to be held in the gym, while MHS is under construction renovation this summer, puts the Town at risk. Periods of electric and water shut down will create issues re: bathroom facilities, electricity, and fire alarms and general safety. Rich Feeley will forward letter to School Superintendent expressing MBC concerns. Kitchen Equipment Drawings — Jim May noted that drawings have been approved with noted changes from the Kitchen Services Dept. Keyes Non-Payment Issue — Jim May expressed concern that no payments have been received from Keyes Associates as was agreed to during the April 27° meeting with Wallace Floyd and Keyes. JTC/COP#5 — Discussion was that the cost to run wiring to pump shed ext. light fixture, time clock in the amount of $39,656.00 as proposed was excessive.
