MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
Mechanical Systems - TCI was on site 3-8-00 to evaluate conflicts with installation of
mechanical systems on the second floor Science area. TCI cited lack of coordination drawings
and existing condition of electrical raceway installation as major conflicts for the mechanical
contractor. Sue Michael Brown has forwarded written evaluation to JTC.
Submittals - Wallace Floyd is still waiting to receive several outstanding submittals (either
rejected or revise/resubmit). Sue Michael -Brown sent letter to Marc Jaoude on 3-8-00 requesting
prompt response. Dates logged out go back as far as February 25, 1999.
Transition Strips/Kitchen - Installation began six months ago and is still incomplete. Project
Coordinator issued written notice to JTC 3-8-00 noting chipping of unprotected edges of quarry
tile at several door openings (tile will need to be replaced). Missing transition strips are causing
a trip hazard.
Sewer Ejector Tank — Problems have been detected in the pit. JTC has been notified to correct
issues with water and electrical conduit.
Science Lab Sinks — Issue re: COP #145A Ref. Science lab sinks in the amount of $14,293.00 —
Based on response from the School Superintendent, Rich Feeley informed JTC that the undersize
sinks installed are insufficient to teach the Science program. JTC to investigate cost of
restocking. Issue pending.
Duct work at Girls/Boys Locker Rooms — Sue Michael Brown had issued directive to installation
of duct work at locker rooms. MBC was advised that the proposed changes to the girls/boys
locker rooms requested by the School Dept are on hold. Staff has not received authorization for
the School Superintendent to make any changes. Lincoln Lynch directed the MBC to move
forward with the contract as scheduled.
MOTION to authorize Wallace Floyd to void their previous correspondence to JTC dated
3-6-00 and direct Contractor to proceed with duct work in girls/boys locker rooms per
contract. JUDY: Passes 5-0.
Change Order Proposals — Committee reviewed status of pending Change Order Proposals as
submitted by Wallace Floyd Design Group.
COP#33 Ref. Credit for engineering at ball field. MBC opinion is that a credit is justified
for the value of reduced scope of engineering required. Rich Feeley commented
that a similar fee was paid to JTC's engineer for $1,000.00 for atwo-inch
discrepancy at QMS.
Status: JTC to review.
COP#69 Ref. Handicap Ramp — Issue Pending.
Auditorium/Fire Protection - Per spec. the Contractor is to remove auditorium ceiling, install
sprinkler system and replace ceiling and install new fixtures. Item is carried in Alternate #1.
Michael Callahan proposed that the ceiling remain in place and that he uses the $10,000
demolition credit to engineer and stage sprinkler installation. Yankee Sprinkler would install
sprinkler from above the auditorium to one foot below the roof deck. Committee's opinion was
that a credit would be due to the Town for the value of work not performed (i.e. new ceiling).
JTC to generate cost proposal. David Young raised question with regard to location of new
lighting. Sue Brown to determine whether the new lighting can be installed at the existing
locations.
Vestibule — Per previous conversation with Jim May, the Contractor prepped the vestibule at
MHS for installation of quarry tile. Based on 3-7-00 MBC Meeting, grate mats were to be
installed. Sue Michael Brown indicated that cost to install quarry tile would be significantly less
than the Committee expected based on square footage.
MOTION to have Wallace Floyd direct the Contractor to install quarry tile based on
pricing of $1,600.00. DY/KG: Passes 4-0.
Roofing Systems - Roofing system installed in the West and South Additions is a substitution
for original design. Discussion was that no cost or credit is due for change in scope of work.
