MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL Proposed Locker Room Changes — John Moretti commented that he has reviewed preliminary sketches provided by Wallace Floyd, and asked for MBC support to incorporate the proposed locker room changes within the scope of work of the MHS Project. (Cost of preliminary design was paid by School Dept.) Proposed modifications would include redesign and construction of four team rooms, fitness center, aerobic room, showers and bathrooms. Discussion was as follows: • Cost — Initial cost proposal for change in scope of work is $181,767,96 (not including preliminary design fee of $1,741.20). Chairman noted that the bulk of cost proposal is for the purchase of lockers. Mr_ Moretti suggested that the School Dept. could purchase lockers at a later date and to eliminate lockers from proposed scope of work. This would reduce cost by about $70K. Sue Michael Brown noted that the Architects fees could be reduced based on the extent of time required to complete work. • Financial Status - Chairman questioned Project Coordinator as to potential cost liability based on the work remaining at MHS. Project Coordinator expressed opinion that a limited number of large change orders are anticipated. Chairman noted that in waiting to receive Locker Room Drawings from Architect and Engineering that a delay cost and possibly an acceleration cost could be incurred to open school by September. • Scheduling — Contractor has installed limited ductwork in the locker room area. Chairman advised Mr. Moretti that the locker room area might not be available until the end of September. School Dept. agreed that no activity would be allowed in the locker rooms while the area is under renovation. School Dept. agreed to handle move of weight room area. • Showers — Discussion raised Re: high cost to install and maintain individual boys shower stalls as requested vs. installation of a gang shower. Mr. Moretti supported installation of a gang shower in boy's locker room. Architect to verify necessity of individual handicap shower units. Trench drains would need to be installed. • Phasing Plan - David Young suggested a phased approach to construct the infrastructure of locker room changes. Committee asked Wallace Floyd to issue a credit for omitting existing work per contract and to begin design phase per proposal. This approach will provide more time also to see how the budget is doing prior to authorizing the work. MOTION to proceed with a phased plan regarding the locker room changes as proposed by the School Dept. Once design is complete and Change Order price put forth then a decision will be made whether to proceed, separately bid, or stop. MBC directed Wallace Floyd to issue notice to stop current contract work and request necessary drawings from TCI. MBC will wait for cost from JTC. DY/JL Passes 5-0. Computer Lab - Mr. Moretti informed the Committee that his previous request to revise scope of work to add a third computer lab at the high school (Cost of $35K) is being withdrawn. The School Dept. has found other means of funding. Funds were not allocated by MBC to perform this work within the original contract. Money would have come out of school furnishings.
