Existing/Ongoing Projects
Cleanup 2017 — Neil
• People are continuing to register online.
• Neil has done Cable Access and it should be airing.
• Neil has placed information in Mansfield News.
• Neil to notify Precinct Captains.
• Neil to follow up on location to place all the trash from the Cleanup. Ideally the South
Common is the best place to have the photo op. We need to publicize that we will be doing
this.
• Pat has emailed all the Community Groups. Pat will work with Neil on assigning the locations
for all the community groups.
• Pat will be organizing and distributing all the supplies this year for Precinct leaders and
community groups.
• Neil will be ordering the T-shirts early this year so we have them in plenty of time. Neil is
using a new vendor and has designed a new T-shirt this year to be used for all Keep
Massachusetts affiliates.
• Big Y is interested in participating this year.
Litter Index —Mike
• The litter index for 1017 is 1.87. This is one of our lowest numbers, but NOT our lowest
number. Our lowest number was in 2014. Mike has posted the results of the Litter Index on
Google Docs.
• The areas that continue to get poor scores are Francis Avenue, Maple Street, and the area in
front of Stop & Shop. Nips continue to be a problem in Mansfield. It is also a state-wide
problem.
• Erin's Corner is also a problem with the trash lined up against the fence. Neil will contact Karl
Clemmey.
Flower barrels - Pat & Nancy
• Nancy has done all the soliciting of the businesses. There are currently 80 flower barrels this
year. Mike reported that we have received $900.00 worth of payments.
• Pat has worked with Patrick Lyons to order the pansies and setup delivery/pickup.
• All committee members are asked to help prepare the barrels by adding soil and fertilizer on
Saturday, April 15th at 8:00.
• Pat and Nancy will be working with DPW on Tuesday, April 18th to place the barrels.
• Planting will begin on Thursday, April 20th. If it is not done, we will continue to plant on Friday
and Saturday.
Adopt a Spot — Martha
• Everyone has responded to Martha's email except Mary Fontes (who does the Spiritual
Garden on Old Elm Street) and the Girl Scout Troop (who does East Common).
• Neil reached out to Kevin McNatt from the Historical Society about the Veteran Memorial
sites. He would like to place a picture in the paper along with historical information about the
site.
• Martha is working with the schools on the Garden Wonders program.
• Martha is working with a 5th grade teacher on the Milk Weed garden.
• The 6" grade QMS teacher/students will be maintaining the QMS gardens.
Painted barrels—Pat
0 There are six barrels out to be painted.
• Jeff's daughters will also be painting a barrel. Pat to get it delivered to his house.
Non -Profit Gift Fund grants — Pat and Nancy
• Nancy researched the cost of 6 self -watering liners and 8 additional pole mounted barrels.
• Pat wrote the grant and submitted.
New Programs
Fulton Pond and Path — Nancy
• Last week the Fulton Pond path was cleaned out by Nancy and some QMS students.
• Nancy is looking into signs to point out the site and its history.
Recycle Day, Savers, Board of Health - Nancy and Dan
• We are still interested in pursuing a Mansfield Recycling Day to go along with the Hazardous
Day.
We discussed perhaps having something at the Mansfield Recycling Center on a Saturday in
November. Since we already have a Recycling Center, we thought perhaps what we need to
do is better publicize the center and better educate the public on what services it provides.
We need to further discuss this and decide on a course of action.
March Madness Basket Ball game - All
• The event was so much fun and we all agreed to participate again next year.
• We will make sure we have more players on our team next year and provide everyone
Cleanup T-shirts.
Banner and sign programs — Nancy
• 70 new banners will be going up in the Downtown as part of the Strategic Downtown
Committee.
What to do with our $12,000? Bolster on-going projects, new projects —All
• Neil would like to spend some of the money on a fence to block the Mansfield Green.
• Pat and Nancy would like to pursue additional murals at Copeland Street and County Drive.
Litter sign program —Jeff, Neil, and Mike
Three different types of Anti -litter signs were designed. The Selectmen liked the sign that had
a positive message and agreed to placing the signs for a limited time by litter -prone areas.
Neil has a contact that will make the signs free. His name is Cubby Kiley from Atlantic Broom.
On/Off ramp spring cleaning—Jason
• Jason received information from District 5 and will report on this at the next meeting.
• We really need to address the litter on the state highways and on/off ramps as they are
particularly bad this year.
Marque in near police station — Nancy
Nancy would like the marque at the police station to be taken down. She is working with
Parks and Recreation to get this done.
Redesigning Downtown — Erik
• Erik showed us a preliminary design of reworking the Downtown.
