Planning Board and Downtown Advisory Committee reviewed the memorandum
prepared by the Planning Director which had been sent to both committees.
D. Kaufman questioned if the Town is ready to spend money or if they
are supposed to envision certain things being done and then theTown is going
to do them or are they supposed to envision things such as changing the
zoning in order to change the atmosphere of the downtown so that the
property owners will invest their money. Chairman Parsons noted that the
officials of the Town realize that there are things that the Town is going
to have to provide such as sidewalk repair, planting and visual improvements
in the downtown area to make things look more attractive inorder for the
individual business to start facelifting. Planning Director Maurer noted
that the specific responsibility of the Committee is outlined by the Town
Meeting vote and the first item is the zoning. P,lanh W Tighe noted that
if they required town funds to any extent that they, as a committee, would
have to go to Town Meeting to ask for the funds.
