A meeting of the Mansfield School Committee Budget Subcommittee was opened and called to order at 3:39
p.m. P:

Discussion
The minutes of October 24 were approved. 2-0.
Ed Vozzella gave an overview of the FY18 budget proposal to date, which factored in potential staff reductions
due to retirement and due to enrollment reduction. He also outlined a proposal to allow the district to move
toward free full-day kindergarten. Zeff outlined school/building-based staffing requests, which have not yet
been factored into the budget proposal since they are still being reviewed and prioritized by central
administration and the building principals. It was suggested the principals review the 5 -year narrative to keep in
mind long-term and strategic needs of the district as they finalize staffing requests for FY 18.
Ed provided a breakdown of requests for technology in each building, which have increased significantly over
last year. The need for additional technology integration specialists was discussed in light of the continued
investment in school technology.
Central administration will prepare a budget overview to be presented at the December 6 School Committee
meeting, with a more detailed presentation by building principals at the School Committee meeting in early
January.
Lynn Cavicchi will contact Liz Christo and Yogen Chemburkar from the Finance Committee to schedule a meeting
to review the preliminary FY18 budget proposal; tentative date is November 29 at 5 p.m.
