a
Treasurer's report. The treasurer's reports for November and December were reviewed
and approved.
Librarians' reports. The librarians' reports for November and December were reviewed
and highlights discussed. The library's FY 2014 certification has been received with MEG funding
expected to be approximately $22,000 for the year. The "Polar Express" movie screening was very
successful. Movie nights will continue with "8 Below" as the next feature. Donations will go to the
Mansfield Animal Shelter.
OLD BUSINESS
Salary structure. The board discussed the library's Step schedule for employees'
compensation. The structure needs revision and the board will continue to work on it over the next
several months. Catherine will work on analyzing the Step schedule to determine the current status
of all employees.
Children's librarian. The board is considering modifications to the children's librarian's
work schedule, including the possibility of having certain tasks performed remotely.
Reference librarian. The pay grade of the library's senior reference librarian may need to
be adjusted since she has added significant additional duties to her work load including YA
activities, outreach to schools, maintenance of the Facebook page and contributions to the web site.
Closing. The board considered elongating work days to ten minutes past the library's
closing times in order to facilitate the final steps in securing the facility. After discussion it was
concluded that no adjustment seems necessary at this point.
Staff meetings. Staff meetings have continued, the most recent being an informal "gripe
session" which turned out to be productive and helpful.
NEW BUSINESS
PCs and space planning. Catherine reported a number of recent warnings to patrons using
library computers for "inappropriate materials." The board discussed the issue in light of ongoing
plans to relocate computers as part of the planned shelf expansion and reconfiguration of certain
areas. The new shelving will cost approximately $22,000 and Joe estimates $12,000 for
installation. A number of carts will be leased to move 3,000 books from one end of the library to
the other ($540). Completion is anticipated in early March.
Next meeting. February 1. The meeting was adjourned ai )j1:15 a.m.
