OLD BUSINESS
Librarian's report. Cathie reported on progress in arranging the One Book, One
Community program. A schedule of events has been printed on bookmarks available at the front
desk. A guest appearance by Wonder's author, R.J. Palacio, is not feasible because of her high
speaking fee. Random House has sent the library three boxed sets of Wonder and 365 Days of
Wonder which will be used as raffle prizes.
Cathie attended the annual Southeastern Massachusetts Libraries Legislative Breakfast on
February 6, noting the support of all of Mansfield's representatives.
NEW BUSINESS
Weather closings. The board reviewed the procedure for closing the library in the event of
seriously bad weather, noting especially the danger to patrons when there is no custodial staff to
maintain the sidewalks. Catherine will continue to consult with the board when she deems it
necessary to close and will also make it a point to notify the Town Manager. The board members
took note of the Town Manager's cell phone number to ensure he is notified promptly when closing
is necessary.
Budget meeting. Catherine reported that some reductions in the library's initial submission
are likely, particularly the book budget.
Strategic plan. The board discussed commencing work on a new strategic plan for the
library, most likely to be in place for FY2017. Possible approaches include primarily focus groups
and patron surveys. Having such a plan in place will enable the library to apply for various grants.
