6:05pm, Ben Newcomb, came to discuss his Eagle Scout Project. He would like to repair
and replace the Memorial Park Tennis Court Backboard. He will take it down, paint it
and add another 8 x 20 ft. section, and then raise it again. Sherri told him that he would
need to go to the Building Department to get a permit. Ben stated that he has to have the
project approved by his council, but wanted to get the approval of the Recreation
Commission before seeking the council approval. Once he receives that, he will need a
signature from Sherri and start fundraising for the project and then proceeding with the
wall repair and replacement.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to approve the Memorial Park Tennis Court Backboard
As recommended by Ben Newcomb. Seconded by Mike Weber. Motion passes, 4-0.
6:10pm, Larry Silver of MYS brought in some suggestions for facility projects and
improvements. On the list was: lights for the fields, adding a new field, adding speed
bumps in the parking lot, working on drainage issues, using area near kick wall for
parking and storage, adding a scoreboard, adding additional parking, and revamping the
concession stand. Larry was looking for the Recreation Commission's thoughts on how
to prioritize the items. Mitch stated that he feels addressing the drainage issues is at the
top for him and putting in another field. Sherri told Mr. Silver that he should meet with
Mark Cook regarding adding a new field and that Mr. Cook could be invited to the next
meeting to address this issue. She also stated that he can get in touch with Jay Beckett
and Mark Cook regarding the drainage issues. Mr. Silver wanted to be put on the next
agenda as he wants to start working on these projects immediately. Mitch reminded
Larry that all the projects done at the Plymouth Turf and Grass fields must be run through
the Recreation Commission as the fields belong to the town.
6:20pm, Rebecca Foster came to address the commission to add a 2-3year old weekly
soccer group. She felt charging them $35 per child and limit it to 24 children. They would
divide the children into 4 groups and end with a scrimmage. She would use volunteer
coaches and wants to use Plymouth Street grass fields at 10-10:40am on Sundays starting
at the end of April to the end of June. Sherri suggested that registration come from the
