Copies were passed around for everyone to look at. It was noted that the commission's copy is in two'bound volumes, whereas the library had requested that theirs remain unbound. Connie also noted that it was necessary to take a reduction to 76% full size in order to copy many of the pages in their entirety, and that she had compiled'a table"of contents for the articles. As was (ioted.in the last meeting, a call was placed to a binder for an estimate of the cost of unbinding and rebinding the original volume. However, as this estimate was in excess of $100., it was decided to go ahead with the copying as planned. The chairperson presented a list of all inventories completed thus far and the dates which they were completed. Patti Rotert reported that she had visited Miss Clara Flint, president of the His,.. torical Society and had presented her with copies of all the completed inventories. Miss Flint was very happy to have them. She was also glad to hear of the Commission's work copying Jennie Copeland's articles. Miss Flint invited anyone from the Commis- sion who is interested in the Society to come and talk with her anytime. David Loving presented the completed inventory on his house at 31 West Street. It was motioned and voted at this time to make six copies per inventory from the original forms, so as always to have a legible copy of each inventory completed. It was also motioned and voted to number completed inventories according to the following system. The town has been divided up into seven sections, letters A through G. Area A #'s 1-99 8 #'s 100-199 C #'s 200-299 D #'s 300-399 E #'s 400-499 F #'s 500-599 G #'s 600-699 The numbers in the 800's will be used to number cemeteries, and the 900 numbers will be used for monuments and structures. All completed inventory forms are now numbered according to this system. Jane Sheehan brought the rough draft letter to home owners written by Lyman Avery, who could not be present. It was then discussed. The Commission fully appreciated all the effort put into the letter, and several ideas which Lyman suggested within were agreed upon: To send a form letter on Historical Commission and to include a return envelope which could be mailed to or dropped off at the Town Hall. It was also agreed to send away for one hundred copies of "A Glossary of Old House Parts" from the Old House Journal. Jane Sheehan agreed to simplify L'yman's'rough draft into a one-page letter asking homeowners a few basic questions oh their.houses. Jane Sheehan asked about a particular building which is very significant histor- ically but which has been extensively remodelled. She ieondered'if this building would be inventoried. Some members felt that it should be, others not. A general discussion follwed as to what qualifies a building to be inventoried, with many varying opinions raised. y -2- The Conservation Fair was discussed. It was noted that at this time it seems that the Commission will have a one-page handout sheet explaining its work, a sign asking for photos and documents of historical value be lent to the Commission, a photo display of architecture, a sign-up sheet for townspeople interested in helping the Commission, and perhaps the booklet of architectural styles, if finished.
