Minutes - August 5, 1982

The meeting opened at 7:41 at the Town Hall. Minutes for J lye&egad and'app, A,
The letter sent to Edward Casey, the Attleboro attorney who had requ
information on a Mansfield house, was read to the Commission.
Correspondence regarding the town Capital Improvement Program was received
from Town Planner Paul Folkman. One of the parts of the project is an
"historical structures survey." This coincides with the C'ommission's own
survey program. It was discussed whether to fill out an application for
funding from this Capital Improvement program, or to submit a warrant in the
next Town Meeting or to do both. No firm decision was made. However, it was
motioned and voted to invite Town Planner Folkman to a meeting so as to explain
to him the amount of time and money involved in the completion of the town
inventory.

The Commission then went on to look at the work submitted by Ms. Betsy Pyne -
the remainder of her research to complete several inventories. It was noted that
one of the forms had some of the information mixed up - Chatle s Azarian agreed
to take the form and resubmit it with the correct information and photo.
It was then motioned and voted to pay Ms. Pyne for this work - a total of $98.80
as submitted in a formal bill.
It was motioned to send as read a letter to homeowners that will be sent along
with completed inventory forms. This letter will ask the owners for any
additions or corrections and will include the names and phone numbers of
Commission members.
Two members of David Anthony Associates were present and at this time gave the
Commission a sales pitch regarding their work distributing town telephone
directories. The representatives wanted the Commission to sponsor a Mansfield
telephone directory which would also include historical information and many
advertisements from local businesses. They suggested that the Commission could
make a great deal of money on the project. There was some discussion as to
whether it was legal for the Commission to be involved in such a fund-raising
project, as it is a town commission and not a private organization, and this
compan* has never done business with an historical commission in the past.
No decision was made on the offer.
Charles Azarian, who had earlier left the meeting to attend one of the Tri -
County Beagle Club, returned with a report on the Club's offer of the Old
Glory Farm property. The Club has already offered the farm to the Mansfield
Historical Society, who turned it down because they felt that the building
could not be moved intact. The Club is willing to give the building to the
Historical Commission providing the Commission will move it off the property.
There was some discussion as to whether the building can be moved without
causing it severe damage. If the Commission df,cides not to take the property,
The Club will have it torn down.
The mmeting adjourned at 9:,45.
