Chairman reported on a meeting of May 5, 1981 at Mansfield High School with Superintendent Barbarisi, Dr. Gorman, Dave Blacher, Mike Minelli and John Wooten of Koppers, 0. E. Nault, Herman Bouwman, Saquet and Douglas regarding the high school roof: a. Per Minelli, Koppers guarantee is to make roof watertight. He was adamant on this point. b. Koppers will pick up cost of repairing leaks c. Recommended regular roof inspections and maintenance by qualified roofer. (such as Moberg of Brockton) specifically on expansion ,joints, flashing, curbs, drains, and other usual weak spots. d. Minelli promised that he would personally inspect roof annually (in fall) to determine condition of blistering and Koppers would pay for repairs where blisters have list bitumen and would be in dnager of breaking. Gorman to follow-up. e. John Wooten added that one way to prevent bitumen from flowing into drains would be to paint five foot diameter area around all drain white to reflect heat of sun. f. Minelli stated that Koppers has never defaulted on a roof bond. Nault challenged with an example where they did. Minilli responded that was a r. case where Supt. of Schools had unauthorized work done on roof and that this was the only such case he knew of. This seemed to satisfy Nault. -2- g. Snow Removal - Minelli said that any actions to remove snow could endanger and damage roof resulting in voided bond. Any roof weakness is structural not roofing. Building codes call for roofs to carry dead weight of snow. Drains should be maintained for correct water flow. No roof is designed to carry the weight of snow blowers and walking and shoveling -could damage a healthy roof. Koppers cannot be held responsible for blisters broken under these conditions. h. Robinson School Addition - Koppers roof, leaking leak in roof drains leak at expansion joint leak at edge - blown in by storm All are maintenance jobs - no roof defect Also a skylight in old part of school is leaking. 6. Letter from Council on Aging regarding the Council's interest in the future use of the Paine School. Letter to be sent to the Council offering the MBC's assistance in doing a feasibility study when and if the building becomes available. Meeting adjourned 9:30pm Clerk Date H
