Minutes of last meeting read and accepted with correction that
$12,000.00 to read C.O.A. Minutes read and accepted. R. Paza
seconded by R. Saquet. Voted.
Reviewed correspondence to Town Council.
S. MacCaffrie stated he felt that the $279,000.00 for use at the
highway garage was not money being wisely spent.
It was indicated that per R. Saquet that the control of the D.P.W.
project budget is designated for salt storage and fuel relocation
and the rest of the budget is for rehabilitation of the existing
building.
'Discussed library proposal with the associate members of the committee
and the architect, Wilson Raines, with regards to the three proposals.
1. The existing facility is expensive to renovate for the
dollar and does not lend itself to the program nor does it
include any land taking for parking.
Does not include any space for C.O.A.
Approximate cost for this work, $1.8 million.
2. The Park Row School works well for the program with
major renovation. There are numerous structural issues to
be addressed. Elevator is also required.
The building does not relate well for use space for C.O.A.
and staffing requirements remain a problem. The architect
will look at the space requirements in this structure for
C.O.A.
There remains a parking problem along with a more expensive
staff requirement. There is also the question of availability
since the school requirements are also growing. Cost $1.6
million.
MM
3. The proposed new location on Hope Street is ideal. It
lends itself for expansion and includes space for C.O.A.
It lends its design for minimum staff requirements, has
adequate parking.
The space requierments for C.O.A. are also met under this
proposal.
Both the Recreation Commission and the Parks Department
are in favor of this location as the opening up of the
site augments utilization enhancement for the municiple
area.
Steve indicated that it would bring more people into the
area, open up more space and meet the needs of the senior
citizens which they also have in their future expansion
plans. Estimate cost, $2.0 million.
Discussion followed on building location and buffer zone but
was considered out of order by.the chairman since there is not a
specific plan for work at this date.
Members discussed the use of the Paine School as a future site
for the Police Station. It is noted by those present that the
building would lend itself for renovation and expansion within
the perimeters of use. At this time we do not have enough
information as to all the requirements for use and occupancy
-or wether there is enought land to make it feasable.
Meeting adjourned at 10:07 p.m.
