The Animal Welfare Committee meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at Mansfield Airport.
Approve Minutes
Motion: To approve the minutes from October, 2016.
Veterinary
• Gizmo, who is in a foster home, will be PTS due to cancer.
• Mantis will be spayed, but no echocardiogram will be done prior to surgery. Mantis has a
grade 3 heart murmur.
• Erika will return next week to continue vaccinating the cats and doing combo tests.
• Ana indicated that we should continue the practice of combo testing either the mother cat
or one kitten in the litter rather than doing all the kittens. Wording in the database
printout can indicate that a sibling was tested, and that a combo test at age two months is
not always accurate.
• Rowanhas stage 2 kidney disease, but Erika said that just being in stage 2 doesn't mean
he needs fluid therapy. An exam would determine if fluids should be given. Blood work
was done in September, and Erika recommended a recheck every six months.
• Sharon would like incoming cats to receive Revolution and Profender.
• Ana said that MSF will pay for vaccinations and veterinary care for Morwena, the dog
boarding at the shelter because his owner is homeless.
