All policies look ok except for the refreshment policy which remains outstanding. Kiera O'Neil recommended approving all policies except the refreshment policy as that one does not have any impact on the bond rating. Linda Fernando motioned to approve all the town financial policies with the exception of the refreshment policy which will be tabled until further clarification. Jenn Walsh Seconded the motion. Motion U.C. 4 — 0. Vote to Approve MHS Band Field Trip to Orlando Matt Maguire and Michael Connolly attended to answer any questions on the Band trip over February vacation to Disney. Linda Fernando motioned to approve the band trip to Orlando in February. Jenn Walsh Seconded the motion. Discussion: • Is the Percussion group still going to Dayton in Ohio? That would mean two extensive overnight trips with large student expenses. Dayton Trip is pending the abilities of next year's group. If only one can happen then Orlando is the priority trip. • How will equipment get to Orlando? Parents will drive box truck with all uniforms and equipment. • Choir students are included in trip. How will they raise money? They will be included in the Gillette stadium volunteer opportunities. (May need to research the bylaws for the band boosters to be sure they can push money out of band to choir.) • Will all kids be required to go? No, volunteer only and NO pressure on students or families. • Will this impact a band grade? No. • Are scholarships available? Yes. Page 1 of 3 Approved 6-13-16 Mansfield School Committee Meeting Minutes for Monday, May 24, 2016 Superintendent's Office Can we get some additional information or see extent of parent interest? Matt will be holding an informational meeting for parents in June. • A suggestion was made to approve contingent on additional information. Linda Fernando motioned to change the original motion to approval of exploring interest in the field trip and then coming back for final approval. No second, so original motion still stands. Motion Passes 3—1(Lynn Cavicchi NAY) Vote to Approve MHS Associate Principal Job Description School committee reviewed proposed description. They felt that there was rewording that needed to be done. Lynn Cavicchi motioned to approve the new Associate Principal job description with the stipulation that the wording will be fine tuned as suggested by the committee. Jenn Walsh seconded the motion. Motion U.C. 4 — 0. Superintendent Evaluation Training / Planning: • Patti Grenier facilitated the workshop as a means of explaining the evaluation process. n. • The evaluation is a 5 step cycle that should continue throughout the year. • School can set its own time table (start and end date.) which will typically revolve around the school cycle but should also take into consideration election dates for new board members. • School committee must determine which factors are important to use in evaluating. • Evidence can be prepared and presented throughout the year or at the end of the cycle. An example of `during the year; would be a presentation at a meeting where the superintendent could say "and this can be used as evidence toward goal..." • Every member independently reviews the rubric and evaluates the superintendent. • School Committee Chair or designee collects the evaluations and consolidates them to one final evaluation. There was some question as to whether or not the collection process would be done in a meeting. It was recommended that it not be done in meeting because open meeting law would require individual evaluations to be available to the public. • The process for completing this year's evaluation and setting plans for next year was discussed. • For this year, Zeff Gianetti will provide evidence at a higher level. However any school committee member can ask for more detailed information on any piece of evidence. Timeline: June 6: Zeff s year end report due to school committee June 17 Individual school committee evaluations due to Kiera O'Neil June 21: School Committee meeting- open meeting evaluation of superintendent June 21: SC meeting: Set cycle for next year. Motion to adjourn: At 10:05 p.m., Kiera O'Neil asked for a motion to adjorn.
