The foundation for the website is moving to Content Management System (CMS) which is the standard for the industry, allows for multiple editors and improves security. Ms. Zlatkova explained that a template will be created for each Department where a dedicated authorized user will be able to update its page. Mr. Ross asked if there will be a footprint as to who is making changes to which she noted yes but it should only be the assigned user. Ms. Zlatkova went on to explain this will function by Word Press technology which is an open source technology (similar to Facebook and Twitter). It is a free software system with the only purchase being thee plug -ins totaling $900. Ms. Zlatkova went through the Home Page referencing the tabs: About Us, Residents, Businesses, Schools, Town Government, Public Safety and Contact Us. Chairman Aptowitz noted the website should reflect the most popular reason for going to the website while Mr. Schoonveld suggested looking at the most visited sites on the current website. Upon review the Board suggested the following: • Create additional tab for Forms • Combine trash pickup /recycling groupings under Residents • Create Budget /Finance tab. It was decided that the Town Manager's office will control the Home Page content. Mr. DelVecchio asked what is lost /gain from outsourcing the site to which Ms. Zlatkova explained she and her Department would gain time to work on the many other projects but would loose control of content as an outsourcing company could not keep up to date with all the changes on a timely basis. It was Ms. Zlatkova's hope that once the Board decides to approve the site she would be ready to go live immediately. The Board suggested an email to Department Heads to clean up the content on its current page and then to begin the process of training. It was the hope to go live by mid - September.
