FY17 Budget Presentation:
CO n
M
Presenters: Edward Vozzella, Zeffro Gianetti, Teresa Murphy along with each school principal
(Joanne Jordan, Kerri Sankey, John Nieratko, Suzanne Ryan and Michael Connolly)
Ed Vozzella presented the consolidated spreadsheet highlighting the budget number of
$48, 805,718 which is a 6.6% increase from last year's budget total.
• Salary and Wages are up 3.31% reflecting required salary adjustments offset by 8 known
retirements. This increase is consistent with prior years.
• Expense budget is up by 11% key points being:
• Big increase in a long time in special education outplacements
• Allocation of funds for 1/2 of the Town HR position
• Replacement of servers at end of life
• Maintenance of equipment, etc.
• Standard expenses
Key points by school:
Roland Green (Joanne Jordan)- The proposed budget allows Roland Green to provide in district
specialized programming for special education students and maintain current staffing levels.
Robinson ( Kerri Sankey)-
• Add a reading mastery program which will meet the needs of the most struggling readers.
• Add Lexia Learning, a web based product which will provide literacy support to students
under the RTI umbrella.
• Change over to full day kindergarten for all students and absorb tuition costs. Although
there is a high cost to absorb, some of that cost is offset since currently many of the 1/2 day
kindergarten students require remediation down the road.
• Add a math interventionist to assist with struggling math students.
Jordan /Jackson (John Neiratko)-
• Language Arts and SPED workbooks (continue to meet our goal of reaching all learners.)
• Bolster literature and technology in the library
• Addition of Chrome books to aid in instruction

Mansfield School Committee Meeting
Minutes for Tuesday, January 5, 2016
Town Hall, Room 3A &B
Qualters Middle School (Suzanne Ryan)-
• In pursuit of the school improvement plan of increasing academic growth and expanding
capacity to meet needs of high risk kids
• Addition of Chrome books to aid in instruction (1 cart for Grade 6 ELA, 1 cart for Foreign
Language and 1 cart for general use/ sign out.)
• Increase in student activities funds to support our music department. Mansfield lags behind
other communities since we do not start instruction until Grade 6.
Mansfield High School (Michael Connolly)-
• Budget increases reflect school improvement plan, technology integration and the new
semester based schedule
• Text books (changes in state frameworks, obsolete books, new classes with new schedule)
• Staffing: in the proposed budget there are 5 positions required to run the new schedule
(Spanish, Business (.5), Teacher (1), Music (3), PE (2)) The generic teacher is known based
on class segments on the new schedule. Once the students start enrolling, MHS will have a
better idea on the type of teacher needed. The music teacher is required because MHS will
no longer be able to share the QMS resources due to the new rotating schedule. Two PE
teachers are required so that we start meeting state requirements on the amount of PE
credits earned per year per student.
• Technology (addition of Chrome books and visual arts laptops; technology in the library)
• Dean of Students (new position) to assist with day to day and student discipline. This to
replace an assistant principal lost several years ago to budget cuts.
Technology Integration Specialist (Teresa Murphy)
• New teaching position who will provide hand on support to teachers
• Help teachers integrate technology into the classroom
• Common position in other local communities
• Our goal would be to slowly increase the number of specialists throughout the district.
Michael Trowbridge indicated that the town would be presenting their budget on Wed 1/6/16 and
then the budget subcommittee would meet in mid January to zero in on the budget details. Until
Town meeting, the FY17 budget should be on each school committee agenda until Town Meeting.
Budget information can be found on www.mansfieldschools.com /about /budget.
Motion to adjourn: At 8:48 p.m., Michael Trowbridge asked for a motion to adjourn (1st) Linda
Fernando and (2nd) Jenn Walsh.
