1. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM.
2. Minutes of the Recreation Commission Meeting held on April 13, 2015.
Motion: By Mitch Bregnard to approve the Recreation Commission Meeting minutes
from April 13, 2015 as written. Seconded by Ed Westhaver. Motion passes, 3 -0.
3. Facility Requests:
A. Special Olympics Soccer Tournament is requesting use of Plymouth St on 10/18, rain
date, 10/25, from 7a -3p.
B. St. Mary's Pack 7 requests Memorial Park playground and picnic area for their
Advancement Ceremony on May 16 5 -8p.
C. Pack 13's Annual Rocket Derby requested Plymouth Street back fields on 6/14, rain date
6/21, 1 -5p.
D. MYBA basketball Tournament Fundraiser requested use of Memorial Park Basketball
Courts 9/12, rain date 9/19, 9a -6p. Kevin Kemp asked and it was confirmed that they
were reminded that they can only use 3 of the 4 courts as one needs to remain open to for
public use.
4. Visitors:
At 6:15p, Ken Bekampis, Mansfield youth Lacrosse, came in to request permission to
place a permanent shed at Hutchason Field for equipment storage. Every spring /fall, they
have to move nets up there from other shed. They want to store nets, paint sprayers and
other equipment at Hutchason. Kevin Kemp asked that they maintain it especially
keeping the graffiti under control with anti - graffiti paint and to monitor it.
Mr. Bekampis said that the MYL will be maintaining it.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to allow Mansfield Youth Lacrosse to put a permanent
storage box as described by map (given at the meeting). Seconded by Mitch
Bregnard. Motion passes, 3 -0.
5. Old Business:
A. Open Space and Recreation Plan- workshops to be scheduled.
B. Annual Town Meeting, Tuesday, May 19 at 7p.
C. Ongoing Summer Camp and Spring/Summer Program registrations.
D. Songbirds of the Northeast with naturalist John Root, June 11, 6:30p.
6. New Business:
A. Sherri Gurnon stated that the Park Attendant vacancy was filled by Mitch Bregnard.
B. Preschool and Yoga are still in need of a facility. Sherri Gurnon mentioned that Bill
Ross, Town Manager, invited her to attend a meeting with the YMCA regarding the
building they rent from us to see if we can share the space.
C. Final voting for the Park and Recreation Scholarship recipient. Ed Westhaver said he
would be available again to present the award.
D. Ducks are available for sale in the Recreation Office beginning Monday, May 18. Duck
Race is June 24. Ed Westhaver will do the announcing. Kevin Kemp and Dave Rapoza
(Kevin was going to ask Mr. Rapoza) will get in the water.
E. Kevin Kemp asked if the Boy Scouts could be asked to attend the fishing derby next
year to help with those that may need help with "how" to fish or with their rods. It
would be a good way for them to earn service hours.
6. Next Commission Meetine: Tuesday, June 16, 2015 6:00 PM.
To be held at the Town Hall.
7. Motion: By Mitch Bregnard to adjourn. Seconded by Ed Westhaver.
Motion passes, 3 -0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM.
