1. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM.
2. Minutes of the Recreation Commission Meeting from June 16, 2015.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to approve the Recreation Commission Meeting minutes
with an amendment of changing Dave Raposo to Dave Rapoza
from June 16, 2015 as written. Seconded by Mitch Bregnard.
Motion passes, 4 -0.
3. Questions & Comments: none.
4. Facility Requests:
The Commission discussed field reservation requests and permitting as follows:
- MUASC (Mansfield United Adult Soccer Club) requests the Plymouth Street field
from 8a -noon starting 8/30 - 11/22/15 (11 weeks). They will use both grass and turf.
Mitch Bregnard, who heads up this league, will need to make alternative dates or
times for the weekend of Oct.11 due to MYS Columbus Day Tournament and the
following weekend of Oct. 18 for the Special Olympics.
- Mansfield Youth Flag Football will be using Lower Memorial Park, Saturdays 8/22-
1117I15 8a -4p.
- MHS will be using Memorial Park/Hutchason Field M -F 2:30- 5:30p; Plymouth
Street -NRT Trail, 9/17, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13 2 -5:30p for cross country meets.
- MYS will be using Plymouth Street 8/22 -11/23 and their Columbus Day Tournament
10/9 - 10/11. Kelly Kemp has stepped down as President of MYS.
- Pop Warner will be using Memorial Park 8/3- 10/30/15, M -F 5 -8p, Sundays 10a -4p
and Hutchason Field, 8/3 -8/28, M -F 5 -8p.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to accept, as outlined by the above groups, their field usage
and dates. Seconded by Mike Weber. Motion passes, 4 -0.
5. Old Business:
- Open Space and Recreation Plan workshops are close to be scheduled. Recreation is
asked to attend.
- Fall/Spring Basketball sign ups have begun. Days have changed to Mondays and
Wednesdays.
- Sherri Gurnon asked if the Commission wanted to update the Recreation Scholarship.
It had been tabled at the June 16 meeting. The change would be that "only resident
high school seniors" versus high school seniors and college students.
Motion: By Linda McCabe to modify the Recreation Scholarship form to state "resident
High school seniors only ". Seconded by Ed Westhaver. Motion passes, 4 -0.
6. New Business:
- Mural Dedication Celebration at North Common is set for Sept. 19, 12 -4p. There will
be games, tours, music, food, activities, etc. Sherri Gurnon asked Commissioners to
attend if they could.
- Applications are being accepted for the Nov. 7 annual craft fair.
- Community Calendar's last edit has been sent.
- Summer camp is still enrolling children.
7. Next Commission Meeting: Monday, September 21, 2015 6:00 PM.
To be held at the Town Hall.
S. Motion: By Linda McCabe to adjourn. Seconded by Mitch Breguard.
Motion passes, 4 -0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM.
