2. Guests:
A. Scholarship Discussion- Bea Kearney
Dave Leary reports the Recreation Commission would like to sponsor a student
scholarship. Bea Kearney states the Recreation Commission would have to receive public
donations from outside sources for use towards scholarship funds, and cannot use any
fee's charged for Recreation programs. The only way the Recreation Commission can
sponsor a scholarship would be to hold a fundraiser exclusively held to raise money for
the scholarship.
B. Skate Park Placement- John D' Agostino
Mike Ahern
Pat Burns
,,--
Dave Leary states the Recreation Commission would like to confirm the best place for
construction of the Skate Park and questions if the current proposed location is best. The
Recreation Commission wants to explore all feasible options including the site of the
volleyball court. Mike Ahern states the volleyball court covers unsuitable materials that
would financially prohibit any construction. John D' Agostino reports if there is any
additional cost the Recreation Commission would have to return to Town Meeting to
request additional funds for skate park construction. After discussion, the Commission
agree to move forward with the proposed location.
",
r
The Commission agree a meeting must be scheduled with the YMCA to determine the
terms of park use and detail the partnership between the YMCA, the Recreation
Commission, and the Recreation Department. The Commission express the desire among
members to keep the skate park free from any fees or cost to the children using the facility.
John D' Agostino reports the YMCA lease prohibits them from charging skate park fees.
