June 23, 2003
Attendees Present: Dave Leary; Chairman, Caren Levine,
Lynne McDonnell, Danielle Fish
Excused Absence: Charlotte Falkner
Lorilee Fish, Recreation Director
1. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM.

2. Approval of Minutes:
Minutes of the Recreation Commission Meeting held on May 12, 2003.
Motion: By DanieDe Fish to accept the minutes from May 12, 2003.
Seconded by Caren Levine. Motion passes, 4-0.
3. Visiton:
A. Bruce Fallows, representing Mission Soccer Club, has requested use of Hut chason Field
From 12:30- 6:00 PM on Sunday's beginning in September 2003.
Motion: By Lynne McDonneD to approve Bruce FaDows reservation request for use
of Hutchason Field stipulating,
1. school teams get fint priority,
2. all donations will be deposited in the Memorial Park Gift Account,
3. a $50.00 usage fee will be charged per day.
Seconded by DanieDe Fish. Motion passes, 3-0-1.

B. Mike Zinni has requested the Mansfield Park and Recreation Department co-sponsor a
proposed youth center. Mike intends to provide a setting where the youth of Mansfield and
surrounding towns can play games, watch television, and listen to music, etc. without the
exposure to drugs and alcohol. Lorilee reports the Park and Recreation Department can
insure the center if it run under the direction of the Department. The Commission discuss
Mike's request and would like to see some hard numbers in regard to running the center.
Mike intends to attend the next Commission Meeting with additional infonnation.
4. Reservation Requests:
The Commission review and approve the following requests:
A. Mansfield Elks and Town of Mansfield Flag Day and flagpole dedication held on the East
Common on June 14, 2003.
B. The Tri-Pack Boy Scout Olympics to be held at the Hutchason Field on June 14,2003.
c. Joey Jachec requests use of the Memorial Park picnic grill area on June 16, 2003.

D. MYSA requests the use of Plymouth Street for the end of the season picnic on June 21,
2003.
E. Pat MacKay has requested use of the South Common for a class picnic and tour of the
Town Hall on June 11, 2003.
F. The Mansfield Animal Shelter volunteers has requested use of the South Common for the
Celebration of Animals on June 28, 2003.
G. Brian Clemmey has requested use of Hut chason Filed for a softball camp on August 4-8,
2003.
H. Mary Casale has requested use of Memorial Park for a QMS Music Department picnic for
the perfonning season on September 9/10,2003.
L Joe Sears has requested field space usage, subject to availability, for the Flag Football end
of the year games on November 1, 2003.
J. Margaret Conaty has requested numerous dates for Memorial Park and Hutchason
usage during the months of September through November 2003.

5. Tabled:
A. Lorilee is currently waiting for the final schedule from Midget Football.
B. The final stages of the Open Space Recreation Plan are currently being reviewed by the
state.
C. Sister Cities fundraiser update.
D. Adult volleyball and basketball participation fees to be included on the registration forms
for August registration?
6. Questions and Comments:
None.
7. Old Business:

A. The Skate Park Gift Account has a total of$I,184.00.
B. The Fishing Derby had approximately 170 participants.
C. Community Calendar update:
1. $1,525.00 to be collected,
2. Lynda Zimmerman is working on the infonnation aspect of the calendar.
8. New Business:
A. The meeting regarding the opening of the Memorial Park Lower Practice Field is
scheduled for Wednesday, June 24,2003 at 3:30 PM.
B. Lorilee has hired one additional20-hour person for clean up at the Summer Camp.
C. Dave Leary suggests sponsoring a $500.00 Parks and Recreation scholarship. The
Commission agree and discuss eligibility requirements.

9. Motion: By Dave Leary to adjourn. Seconded by Danielle Fish. All in favor.
r Motion passes, 4-0.
10. Adjournment: 7:45 PM.
11. Next COmmission Meeting: Monday, July 28, 2003 at 6:00 PM.
