Part of that conversion will now allow us to bill payments on the web and to allow customers information about their bills on the web and to accept credit cards. We want to try that now to have a head start. This will allow customers to take advantage of the discount program we have. Town Manager advised that they will also incorporate this on the town side. There is a service charge which would need to be appropriated which they believe is I Y2%. They want to make sure the process is running smoothly before it is announced to the general public. Motion: To support the use of the credit cards in the new billing system. AmorusolDonovan 3-0 Motion passes. The Director reported that the lawsuit in front of the Federal Energy Commission was successful. This will reduce payments we have been making every year. This is a significant win and determination to reduce our costs. The Director publicly thanked the Rango Co on Gilbert Street that allowed us to use their parking lot as a staging area for our new transformers. .~. t r- Light Commissioners Meeting April 9, 2001 Page two The Director advised he had looked at the poles on Route 106 for sidewalks as requested and estimated a cost of $75,000 to move the poles. His own observation was there is not a lot of room and he could see problems such as narrowing the road. The poles switch sides so they are on both sides of the road. Robot Competition Light Department Engineer Ann Langille noted it is a really exciting night for her and the twelve MHS students who participated in the first Robotics Competition. This is a program designed to get kids excited about technology. They wanted to show the robot and hand out the certificates. All enjoyed a demonstration of the robot. Donovan/Amoruso 3-0 Motion passes. 3. Light Department Director's Report Financial Report Kim Stoyle advised the Commissioners there was a healthy profit for the month of February. Sales were up 29% over prior year due to PPCA. The welcome surprise of a decreased purchased power bill was the key ingredient in the healthy profit for the month of February. March appears to be a break-even month, which is decent considering that the month started out with Seabrook down. It is too early to consider lowering the PPCA, as several months of steady healthy profit are needed before lowering this rate. The balance sheet was reviewed as well as the statement of income and surplus. There were limited outages. Major projects the GIS the bid was awarded to the James Sewell company. The work will start probably next week. r-. .. r Light Commissioners Meeting April 9, 2001 Page three The Billing System - the team is meeting with us tomorrow. Seabrook, Millstone, Stoneybrook Outages Seabrook and Millstone are back 100%. Also Stoneybrook is back. When one of the plants foes down it can cost $550,000 per month for Seabrook. Millstone is about 1I3r of that. We have 15 more years with Seabrook. 3. Old Business None 4. New Business None r Commissioner Amoruso advised the Cable License Review Committee will be sending out questioners with the light bills.
