Request is for the temporary repair of the West Street Bridge over Wading River.
A recent inspection by MassHighway has revealed significant deterioration of the
concrete/steel support beams on the underside of the bridge. Mass Highway issued a
load restriction notice and the bridge was posted for a 6-ton limit on 5/24/2005. Tmcks,.
school buses and snowplows currently are unable to use the bridge. MassHighway has
told the town the bridge will not be replaced before 2008.
The next inspection is due in January 2006.
John Sullivan is hoping to have the temporary repairs done before the first snowfall so
the bridge can be restored to the weight limit of20 tons.
Plans originally submitted have been changed. The pracnt ~ revised 10-3-2005,
consists of drilling (15 inches into the wall) and attaching new steel plates at the top of
each abutment wall to support two new steel beams to be placed on either side of each of
the 4 existing steel beams.
~
The Mansfield DPW will be doing the work.
The drawings were submitted to MassHighwayon Friday, September 30, 2005 for
approval.
An erosion control barrier will consist of embedded siltation fencing and staked bay
bales. A netting and/or plastic material will be placed under the bridge and over the
water to catch any falling debris.
Michele visited the site and recommends a Negative Determination be issued.
