Richardson House held on Friday, December 21, 2001:
MBC Member Ken Gay
Special Projects Manager Town of Mansfield — Michael Ahern
MASS HC Representative - Eric Gradoia
MANSF HC Members - Fran Sheaf, Gean Parks and Jen Crotty- Davis.
Ken Gay provided overview to the MBC.
• Foundation - Priority work. Exterior dry laid stone foundation needs to be rebuilt in
specific locations. Ken Gay noted there is matching stone from an existing barn
foundation on site which could potentially be used.
• Structural — Priority work. Ken Gay described scope of work to be mostly a wood
restoration. House is Post and Beam construction. Per MASS HC any re- usable material
will be reused. Any material removed must be saved and cataloged.
• Siding — Priority. Exterior Siding is mostly 1930's. Most of it is in need of replacement.
• Roof— Priority work. Existing has no ventilation and moisture is a problem. South part
needs immediate work.
• Lighting - Building is not well lit. Existing wiring is surface mounted.
• Plumbing not required.
• Re- grading — Due to close proximity of house to road, Ken Gay suggested commission
approach road commissioners to declare no salt area. David Young suggested potential
raising house elevation vs. lowering exterior grade. This would alleviate need for
archeological survey.
• Chimneys (2) — In good shape. Limited work required if any, would be impacted if house
elevation raised.
• Majority of artifacts have been removed and are being stored by Mansfield Historical
Commission.
• Photo documentation is critical to this project.
Ken Gay suggested MBC send letter to DPW requesting well pole be removed and stored.
Building Code Requirements — Fisher Richardson House is categorized as a total restoration
project therefore it is not required to meet current code requirements.
Plans & Specs — Goal is to obtain complete drawings by Mid- January to be confirmed. Per Ken
Gay it appears previous evaluations have conducted about 70 percent of work needed to be put
into the construction documents. Level of detail on construction documents is not extensive.
General Contractor must be DCAM certified. Visible work must be per period of that time. Attic
and basement. Work can use more modern construction techniques.
Architectural Proposals — MBC requested proposals from Roger Panek and Tom Paske. Roger
Panek advised MBC he was not interested in submitting a proposal. Per conversation with Tom
Paske earlier today, he plans to furnish a cost proposal to MBC by early next week.
Cost Concern — MBC expressed concern regarding insufficient funding to complete whole
project. Will need to maximize value of dollars available.
MASS HC Meeting — MBC to invite Eric Gradoia from MASS HC to attend next MBC Meeting
scheduled for Thursday, January 3, 2002.

Fisher Richardson House Project.
