Secretary's report. Minutes of the September meeting were not yet available.
Treasurer's report. Chris presented the Treasurer's Report which was accepted.
Librarian's report. Janet presented her monthly reports and the board discussed various
highlights.
Budget 2003. On instructions from the Town Manager, Janet has prepared a budget
reflecting a 4.5% salary increase, notwithstanding the library's Step program which is predicated
on 3% increments. Funds appear to be available because of unspent funds from several
departments being returned to the Town, and from receiving more state aid than had been
anticipated. The Town has $37,000 available for non -union salary increases, of which $10,000
would be needed for library staff.
The board agreed that revising the library's Step schedule is appropriate and efforts should
be made to bring MPL's salaries closer to market rates.
Patron guidelines. Janet distributed copies of new patron guidelines.

grant and explained that the library will close on a Monday morning for a sensitivity training

affect parents inquiring about their childrens' checkouts.
