BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING - FEBRUARY 6, 2010
Attendance: Nancy Breef -Pilz; Leonard Epstein; Joseph Flynn; John Walgreen; and Director Janet
Campbell. Joe convened the meeting at 8:15 a.m. The meeting was attended by three members of Girl
Scout Troop 80939 (Cassie Notz, Amanda Wendlund, and Deidre Atchinson) who are working on Silver'
Awards, one of the requirements of which is attendance at a civic meeting. They were accompanied by the
troop's co- leader, Karen Petty.
Secretary's report. Minutes of the December and January meetings were reviewed and approved.
Treasurer's report. Chris had a brief initial meeting with the town's auditors to provide
information requested in connection with their annual financial review of the Town's accounts.
Librarian's reports. The librarian's reports were reviewed and details discussed.
OLD BUSINESS
Internet cabling. The re- cabling for switching from Verizon to Comcast has been completed.
Problems occurred in the changeover but they have been resolved.
Meeting room. Some groups are now taking advantage of the "as available" provision for extra
bookings during the month.
Staffing. Darcy will soon be returning. The new subs have been working out well. Circulation last
Saturday (January 31) was over 900 in six hours, which was a difficult `initiation' for Carolyn.
FY 2011 budget. Janet has heard nothing fiarther and it is clear the process will be delayed this
year. Federal aid to states is uncertain which adds to towns' delays. Joe had a conversation with the new
Town Manager, Bill Ross, who was happy to hear that capital funding needn't all come out of the town's
budget because of state aid. To remain eligible for state aid, the library must increase its budget by 2.5%
over the average of the last three years. Last year it was cut 5% and a further 5% reduction will be imposed
this year. Janet has been assured by the BLC that MPL will remain eligible for state aid as long as its
reduction is not disproportionate.
SEMLS breakfast. On February 5 Janet attended SEMLS' annual legislative breakfast.
NEw BUSINESS
Gifts. Recent gifts were discussed.
Next meeting. March 6. The meeting was adjourned-at 10:10- a.R
