Librarian's reports. The librarian's reports were reviewed and details discussed. Correspondence. Recent significant correspondence was reviewed. OLD BUSINESS Book cart. Janet continues to investigate sources for a new book cart, as well as oak chairs. Weeding. Mary is weeding non- fiction. FY 2011 budget. There is still no further word on the new budget. The required 5% reduction will be made up from Kristin's position and a reduction in materials acquisitions. NEW BUSINESS Patron issues. Janet related two issues concerning library borrowing privileges. The first involved a patron who has disputed having overdue books checked out to her account, notwithstanding overwhelming computer evidence to the contrary, including a long overdue balance of $36. The board declined to waive the outstanding fines and concluded there is really no choice but to live with such stalemates. In another case a Mansfield library card was issued based on the applicant's representations that she had recently moved from another state and had never had a local library card from this area. Subsequent investigation revealed the applicant was not a new resident and had a Middleboro card which is not useable because of the family's linked cards with $40 in bills owed on her son's account. The board agreed with Janet's recommendation that the newly issued Mansfield card be immediately blocked from use. Friends of the Library. Janet discussed the fact that the Friends are sorely understaffed, working very hard and continue to seek additional help. Food pantry commercial. Mark Melton, owner of an advertising agency, will be filming a food Pantry commercial in the library. The Mansfield Food Pantry is a pro bono client of Melton's agency. Next meeting. June 5, 2010.
