Librarian's reports. The librarian's reports were reviewed and details discussed. Correspondence. Recent significant correspondence was reviewed. OLD BUSINESS Family card linkage. The board reviewed the policy of linking family cards in light of a recent event where a young person applied for a card but had to be denied because of $84 in outstanding fines owed by other family members. After discussion the board voted to allow linkage of family members' cards, but limit such linkage to those under eighteen years old. FY 2011 budget. There is still no further word on the new budget. The plan remains to cover the anticipated 5% reduction from Kristin's position and a reduction in materials acquisitions. NEW BUSINESS Dress code. Department heads received a memo from the Town Manager allowing "business casual" dress for the summer. Specifically excluded are shorts, t- shirts, jeans, etc. Janet will send a memo to the staff clarifying the library's policy, particularly as it pertains to shorts and shirts with written messages. Upholstery. A volunteer has offered to re -cover some of the library's furniture. Joe Flynn raised several issues to keep in mind including the desirability of high abrasion resistant fabric, the required use of Class A fire code material, absence of cotton, etc. Joe will order appropriate fabric which will cost approximately $30 per square yard. Kitty is experienced at upholstery and will participate in the project. New open meeting law. Implementation of the new open meeting law notice requirements have been postponed from July to November. ILL costs. Inter - library loan costs will no longer be paid by the regional library systems. Mansfield patrons' use of the service has been modest so the board approved attempting to absorb the costs unless it becomes necessary to charge users. Tutor.com. Janet reported a record 59 people used tutor.coin in May. New internet interface. iBistro will be replaced in a few months with a new internet interface. The product is in use now in Darien, CT (see Darienlib.org.) Self- pickup for ]olds. The board discussed Attleboro's implementation of patrons' self - pickup of their on- hold materials.
