BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING - OCTOBER 2, 2010
Attendance: Nancy $reef -Pilz -Chris Cormier- Hayes, Leonard Epstein, Joe Flynn, and Director
Janet Campbell. Joe convened the meeting at 8:10 a.m.
Secretary's report. Minutes of the June meeting were reviewed and approved.
Treasurer's report. The treasurer's reports for June, July, August and September were approved.
Librarian's reports. The librarian's reports were reviewed and details discussed.
Correspondence. Recent significant correspondence was reviewed including a thank -you note from
Brownies who attended a meeting several months ago, and a thank -you letter from the Census Bureau for the
library's assistance in publicizing the process.
OLD BUSINESS
FY 2011 budget. The board discussed the library's budget cut which has turned out to be
disproportionately high compared to the Town's overall reduction. Since the difference was less than 10 %,
however, it should not put the library at risk for decertification. Janet is preparing a waiver request for
submission to the Board of Library Commissioners.
NEW BUSINESS
Massachusetts open meeting law. The board reviewed and discussed the requirements of the new
open meeting law.
Capital improvements. Janet reported that the restroom floors need replacing. She will submit a
request to the Town, although the Town Manager has advised department heads that many maintenance
items are being deferred.
Five year plan. The board approved Janet's newly prepared plan which has been submitted to the
Board of Library Commissioners to meet the October 4 due date.
Agenda. Agenda items for future meetings were discussed including the director's annual
performance review and the recent failure of the library's microfilm reader.
Next meeting. November 6, 2010. The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
