Fair Housing Committee
Minutes
January 17, 1990
Present: Shaun Burke, David Clemmey, Robert Naiswith, Barbara Orlando,
Marilyn Power-, and Nancy Surdel
1. Meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m.
2. Minutes of January 10, 1990 meeting were accepted as printed by
Maismith/Surdel.
3" Shaun Burke distributed a proposed warrant article re: Accessory
Apartments" The committe "nanimouslv voted to present the following
as a warrant article.
ARTICLE ff
To see if the Town will vote to accept the folloVving change to the
Town of Mans|ield Zoning By-Law, or to take any action in relation
thereto:
Amendment to Section 3^V Accessory Apartments
To amend paragraph 3.9.2 by deleting the following sentence-
"In addition, at least one of the two units shall be occupied by e
person(s) at least fifty-five (55) years of age or older."
4. Nancy Surdel said that she had been approached by James Tumblson of
the Mensfield Co-operative Bonk in regard to the Community Re-
investment Act. Mr. Tumble-on was interested in getting information
from the committee in regard to individuals that may be helped with
Special financing under the provisions of the CRA. Nancy will see if
she can get a copy of the act to distribute to members. lt
was also mentioned that we may want a representative of Mansfield Co-
operati"e to appear as a speaker at an upcoming meeting.
5. We also -Felt that Marguarite Brothers and a representative of MCAD
should be asked to he speakers. When speakers are scheduled David
Clemmey suggestrd that we submit a press release to local papers in an
cffort to raise community awereness of the cnmmitLee and its goals^
6, Barbara Orlando distributed posters she had received from the
Massachusetts Board of Realtors. The posters were reviewed. Shaun
suggested that we may want to approach the local schools and sct up a
poster ccntest to promote the objectives of the Fair Housing
Committeo. Shaun will speak to Dianne Royle about this.
7. Marilyn Powers would like our next meeting devoted to a discussion
of MGL Chapter 40D. (Copy enclosed) . Members are to review thp law
and Shaon will answer qucstions we may have.
Meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
The next meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, February !4, 1990.
