Laura Lee of the Parks and Recreation Department came in to
discuss the commission's plan to commemorate the Park Row
School. Jean reported that the school's principal is
enthused about the idea and that Council on Aging members
are already talking to students about the school. She
reported that Park Row will be closing on the 17th or 38th
of May.
Laura asked when the building will be signed over to the
town, since a change in the building's use may mean that
by state law -- the building has to be handicapped -
accessible. She suggested that May 30th, the date of
Uncommon Commons, the town garage.sale and the dedication of
the Chamber of Commerce's Adopt -a- Flowerbed Project might be
a good time to celebrate the school. She said the Yankee
Notion New England folk music group might be performing that
day and suggested that the commission plan tours of the
school with the Chamber's dedication of flowerbeds at 2 p.m.
in mind. Commission members tentatively scheduled tours for
33. a.m. -2 p.m.
A number of other ideas were discussed: exhibits in the
school, setting up an alumni booth on the common where.
people could register, having people send their
reminiscences for a booklet about the school, and dedicating
songs to classes. Members discussed whether tours of the
school would be self - guided _after visitors were met by a
Historical Commission member at the door. Geanine suggested
that alumni act as tour guides, and that the COA could be
contacted for their help. This concluded discussion of the
Park Row School.
Members helped Barbara Orlando complete a latter to the Mass
Historical Commission regarding the Fisher - Richardson House.
The members answered a letter from Ann Chapdelaine of the
North Attleboro Historical Commission to help her prepare
for the Round Table her commission would be hosting March
12th_.
Elections were held. Barbara Orlando was nominated to
continue as Chairperson of the commission, David Loving was
` nominated to continue as Vice - Chair, and Kate Viens as
S Secretary /Treasurer. These members were unanimously elected
to these positions.
Attleboro resident Mike Lattari arrived to ask for
information about Happy Hollow Cemetery off of Williams
Street, because Forest Park building lots abut the cemetery,
and he was concerned there might be an easment to'the site
from the York Road side. Pat and Kate told him they would
locate and send him the commission's survey which had been
done of the cemetery.
The meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.
