MansfielO fistorical Commission Meeting
MINUTES of October 27, 1992 meeting
Office at;
50 West St.
Mansfield, Ma. 02048
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. Present were
David Loving, Jean Nordbeck, Pat Cataloni, Geanine Parks,
Kate Viens
and Wayne Jacques.
Minutes of the September 22, 1992 meeting were approved, and
correspondence was reviewed..
Members discussed the town manager's request that the
commission wait to nominate the Soldiers' Memorial Library
to the National Register until the town has decided how it
is going to use the building. Gean reiterated the
historical commission's mandate to preserve the history of
the town for future generations. Jean noted the importance
of the library building in comparison with the many other
former school buildings the town has available for its use.
Kate suggested writing the town manager to ask that the town
not ask the commission to wait and offering information on
the National Register. Members then decided that they
wanted to go ahead with the nomination and that tabling it
temporarily would not be beneficial.
Gean made a motion to go forward with the nomination
immediately. Wayne seconded the motion, and it was
unanimously accpted in a vote.
Jean then made a motion to draft a letter to the town
manager, notifying him of the commission's decision to
proceed with the nomination. Gean seconded the motion, and
it was unanimously accepted. The committee then drafted the
letter.
Members moved toward completing the nomination. Wayne
volunteered to pick up U.S.G.S. maps, Gean volunteered to
get an assessor's map, and David volunteered to take new
photos of the building.
Kate made a motion to table accessioning the memorabilia in
the commission's files. Gean seconded the motion, and it
was approved.
Gean reported that Lorilee Fish is willing to have her
secretary enter gravesite names onto computer disk, but that
this project will have to be done in stages. Pat noted that
the names from Happy Hollow have been recorded. David said
that Lorilee's department should have a complete list of the
cemeteries in the meantime, and Gean volunteered to get this
to her. David suggested that the smallest cemeteries be
done first, since one of the largest, on the South Common,
may become part of a historic district, but this is down the
road.
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
