for March 28, 1995 at 7:30 PM 95
Present: Pat Cataloni, David Loving, Gean Norbeck, Leslie Pasch and. Kate- Viens: " I i "
The February 28, 1995 meeting was cancelled. The January minutes were approved as
recorded.
A letter from a student in Caledonia, NY requesting information on the history of
Mansfield will be passed to the library to answer. The state historical commission
temporarily lost our National Register application for the Soldiers Memorial Library and
will send it on to Washington. After discussion it was decided to send a letter to Steve
McCaffrey, chair of the Municiple Building Committee, to ask him to keep us informed of
the progress of the renovation of the new town hall (Park Row School) and offering our
help in preserving its architectural character. The firm of Strikalovsky and Hoit has been
chosen and will provide rough designs in the next few weeks. We will wait until the end
of spring when the ground will be more solid to inspect Mill St. for possible grave sites on
the Jameson property. There was a public hearing on the scenic road bylaws last
Wednesday which applies to this property. We are waiting for the developer to contact us
about Bird Road. Kate completed the survey for White Farm and there was no report on
the Andy Barr slides. The building survey for Cleveland Twist Drill has been sent to the
state historical commission.
Kate reported on a followup to the February 18 planning session on March 27.
Participants were asked to rank items they felt were important to Mansfield's future.
Revitalization of downtown, open space, preserving character and improvements to town
administration were ranked high. Impact fees charged to developers of new construction
were discussed and will come up at town meeting.
The Bay State Historical League grant has been rejected. The grant committee felt it
was too focused on getting the Fisher - Richardson house on the National Register but
urged us to reapply. Ideas such as creating a pamphlet or expanding house tours to
publicize the social history of Mansfield were suggested and discussed. Kate will
investigate further and contact Lois Thomas to meet with the Mansfield Historical Society
on April 4 at 7:30 if possible.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
