MANSFIELD HISTORICAL COMMISSION MINUTES
for November 16, 1995 at 4 PM
Present: Pat Cataloni, David Loving, Gean Parks, Leslie Pasch and Kate Viens.
The meeting was held in the West Street Cemetary next to Town Hall. Those present
toured the site of the proposed walkway to link the parking around Park Row (site of the
new Town Hall) and the spaces around the present Town Hall/Police Station. The
walkway would
be on the south end of the cemetary along a well -worn path which appears to have been
used by hearses in the past. Kate explained that a certain amount of parking is required
for the new Town, Hall and the area around Park Row is not adequate. Adding the spaces
in the present lot seems to be the only option. That area could be reserved for employees.
She pointed out that people are unlikely to walk around the cemetary and will probably
cut through anyway. This would pose more danger, especially at night and in bad weather
as the path would not be officially maintained. After discussion, David moved that we
recommend to the Zoning Board that the path be constructed of brick with colonial -type
lighting matching the lamps on the South Common along the path. We suggest it be 5 feet
wide and that handicap accessibility be addressed. Gean seconded. Four in favor, one
opposed. The Zoning Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 21 at 7:30
pm. Kate will write a letter to them with.a copy to Bill Williams, who asked for our input,
with our suggestions.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
