David suggested that the National Register certificate for the Fisher - Richardson House be framed and presented to the Mansfield Historical Society at Founder's Day. Motion by Gean, seconded by Pat. All in favor. Leslie sent a letter to the Mass Historical Commission along with certification from the Town Clerk that the Special Town Meeting warrant article for matching funds for the Preservation Projects Fund grant was passed. The Mansfield Cemetery Restoration Project will receive their 1998 Preservation Award at a ceremony at the Old South Meeting House in Boston on Thursday, May 28 at 5pm. A letter was received from the Mass Historical Commission verifying that the Chilson Iron Foundry (also known as the Clemmey Tank Building) is eligible for National Register nomination. Leslie will see if the building has been surveyed. There is still a possibility that it might be converted into a new railroad station for Mansfield. Leslie will investigate the procurement guidelines we must follow should we receive a predevelopment grant for the Fisher - Richardson House and need to issue a request for proposal. The school tours of the house will take place in early June. After discussion of the date on the two signs at the house, Gean made a motion that we have the date changed from 1704 to "Circa 1740" which is more accurate. Pat seconded the motion. All in favor. Leslie will compose a letter to the Dept. of Public Works, with a copy to the Society, and see that the changes are made. She will also mention changing the dates on the brochures Ideas for 1998 -99 projects were discussed including work on the Cemetery Restoration Project, a cirriculum guide for the schools for the Fisher - Richardson House, more historical building surveys, etc. The Commission members present felt that protection of the Chilson Foundry building was very important. The Town Manager spoke to Leslie regarding the creation of a designated historic district in Mansfield, perhaps for North Main Sheet. Several Commission members felt that in light of the many businesses operating in this area, a historic district would probably be too restrictive. Perhaps the South Common area would be better? The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 30 at 7:30 pm. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm. Motion by Jean, seconded by Pat. All in favor. Respectfully submitted, J C6 Leslie A. Pasch Secretary
