The minutes from the July 27 meeting were approved on a motion by Gean,
2nd by Leslie. All in favor.
Gean reported that the fire extinguishers at the Fisher - Richardson House need
to be recharged and Leslie will make arrangements. She will also make duplicate
keys for all members for the Commission's file cabinets at Town Hall. Kate Viens
has a set which she will retrieve. Billie reported that Kevin McNatt from the
Mansfield Historical Society has done an excellent job of cleaning up the yard of
the house for Founder's Day and she will be taking a girl scout troop to the house
on September 11 to do more. Gean volunteered to attend. Billie also said that the
Ephraim Cemetery off Mill Street has been cleaned up and 36 field stones were
located as possible grave markers. The neighbors are donating a wrought iron
bench.
Leslie reported that Claire Demsey's contract is signed and she and Tom Paske
began their work under the Preservation Projects Fund grant at the Fisher -
Richardson House on August 30. With DPW's permission, she has provided
Claire with a key and the pass code to the house. This seems to be the only
practical way to provide her with access to the house to complete her work over
the next 9 months. All Commission members present agreed. Claire will call
Leslie on a regular basis to update her schedule of work. Gean volunteered to be
the contact while Leslie is on vacation the week of September 6th. Leslie will call
Town Counsel again regarding progress on the Preservation restriction which is
due September 30.
Leslie received a call from the Town Manager's office regarding insurance
being carried on the contents of the Fisher - Richardson House. The historical
society is carrying their own policy on the items they own and there may or may
not be duplication. After discussion, it was decided to have Leslie call Kevin
McNatt and the insurance agency for more information.
Founder's Day is Saturday, September 18 with a performance about Clara
Barton at 2 pm. The rain site is the library. Billie called Lorna Purnell from the
Garden Club about plant markers but was unable to reach her and will try again.
The Fireman's Memorial in Spring Brook Cemetery is going to be moved to the
South Common for more visibility. Eight plots were purchased in 1942 for
firemen but were never used. The Fire Dept. is discussing the exact location with
the Town Manager and hopes to move the 2 -ton monument before Oct. 1.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm on a motion by Gean. 2nd by Billie.
All in favor. The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 28 at 7:30 pm.
pectfully submitted,
Elie A. Pasch
