9. Application for membership from David Martin, Samoset Ave. Mr. D'Agostino will
be interviewing Mr. Martin shortly.
Mr. Loving received a phone call from Billie Sienna regarding one of the large, flat
Ephriam Leonard stones at the Leonard cemetery being destroyed last week. A
discussion followed about the importance of inventorying these small cemeteries,
because it is impossible to protect them all, and the inventories at least leave a record of
where these people were buried.
Mr. Unger told the commission he would be submitting his application for membership to
the Town Clerk's office shortly.
We have received a copy of an August 22, 2002 memo from MBC to John D'Agostino
regarding the general bid opening for the Fisher Richardson House. One bid was
received from ARJ Associates of Needham in the amount of $102,800, which includes
alternates 1 and 2. The MBC and architect recommend entering into a contract. Mr.
D'Agostino signed the memo with "OK 8/26/02 ".
Mrs. Parks has taken a roll of black and white photographs of the cemetery and chapel.
She saw Bob Barrows, Springbrook Association, on site, and he said he is pleased at the
possibility. Mr. Barrows said the association is having serious money problems, and he
hopes membership on the National Register may make put them in a better position to
get grants and loans. Mrs. Parks explained to him that membership did not guarantee the
receipt of funds, it may make it easier.
Draft Form B
Is it Card Chapel or Card Memorial Chapel? Mrs. Parks will double -check the name of
the chapel on the plaque over the door, or in the June 17, 1898 issue of the Mansfield
News.
We will ask the Springbrook Cemetery Association to help with the "style" and
"condition" of the building, Mrs. Parks will also call Kate Viens for help with this
question.
One crypt is the Allen family and lists three burials; another has 7 names and stairs
leading downward — presumably there are more burials below ground, but no other names
listed.
Architectural Design: We will ask Springbrook Association if they have a floor plan.
Mrs. Parks and Mrs. Nordbeck will do a site walk to fill in some of the blanks for this
question before the next meeting.
Motion: To adjourn at 8:45 p.m. (Parks - Nordbeck) All in favor.
Date of Next Meeting: September 24, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.
