5.Conference notice — Bay State Historical League
Mr. Unger noted Article 43 of the Annual Town Meeting warrant regarding work to be
done to the Hartwell School. He was concerned about what work is going to be done,
who would be doing it, and whether funding could be obtained from the state rather than
the town. He presented a draft memorandum regarding this work and a number of
concerns. He suggested sending the memo to the Town Manager, Finance Committee,
Municipal Building Committee, and Mrs. Shaw with a cover letter and copying the
Building Inspector; offer our help and suggest the possibility of withdrawing the article
from the warrant, and working with the commission to get some grant money from the
state. Ms. Parks said that may mean two grants; one for an architectural study and one
for the actual work.
National Register Application - The committee will do a workshop on May 13, 7:30 p.m.
in the Board and Committee Meeting Room, Third Floor.
Sister Cities Weekend — The commission discussed having a reopening ceremony at the
Fisher - Richardson House during that event. Ms, Parks said there will be four tour
groups, so a ceremony may not be possible. She and Mrs. Nordbeck will be at the house
for the tours, will weed the raised beds in the back yard, and will bring some potted
flowers to put around the house.
After the Sister Cities event, we will send the letter from the brochure to The Buzz and
Mansfield News, have the letter added to the new brochure and get the brochure
reprinted. Mrs. Parks will take some digital photographs of the house.
Finance Committee Budget Session— Saturday, May 1 at 10:30 p.m. Mr. Unger will
attend the budget session.
Future Projects — Historical Markers. Mr. Unger said he had seen some historical
markers in Foxboro and suggested looking into getting similar signs for sites in
Mansfield, especially for the Fisher - Richardson House. He will contact the Foxboro
Historical Society to find out who built their signs.
Town Elections are May 11; Annual Town Meeting is May 18
Motion: To adjourn at 8:40 p.m. (Martin- Unger) All in favor. PASSES
