MEETING MINUTES FOR MARCH 25, 2004
Present: Jay Barrows, Alan Clapp, Tom Flanagan, Rich George, Tom Pestowich;) R w 'f
guests: Maria Correia, Mansfield Holiday Inn; Jolm D'Agostino, Town Manager
Discussion: prior to the meeting, Eileen Ouellette forwarded a copy of the most recent
version of the Mansfield brochure by mail to IDC members, at the request of Mr.
Flanagan. The brochure was sent with a request that members take the time to review the
contents and provide any comments or suggestions for improvement, revision and
additions that could be made. The Town Manager has identified the update of the
brochure as one of the main priorities he would like the IDC to address. These brochures
will be provided to potential new businesses that contact the town. Members agreed to
review and provide comments on update and revision.
Mr. Flanagan provided the membership with the rate information for advertising the
town of Mansfield in Site Selection. The lowest rates broke down to a cost for three 1/3
page, 4 color advertisements of $4,080 net per ad inserted. The brochure detailing the
rates for various ad packages was circulated for member review. Mr. Barrows stated that
the costs of the ads were high, and that it would probably be more effective and cheaper
to use the funds in the IDC budget toward a Mansfield Business promotional event. He
pointed to a legislative breakfast organized by the IDC within the last two years as a good
example.
Mr. Clapp and Mr. O'Regan are familiar through their professions with the commercial
real estate marketplace. They agreed that the advertising rates for Site selection seemed
too high, and said that going with more local publications, based in New England and
Boston, would probably be more effective and more affordable. Mr. Flanagan noted that
the clear IDC consensus was against recommendation of advertising in Site selection at
this time; the matter was tabled and not put to a vote.
The IDC members agreed to look into the costs of more local publications as an
alternative, and also that a promotional event may be the most effective use of town funds
and IDC efforts. Mr. Clapp agreed to gather information on ad rates for local
commercial/industrial real estate publications.
Mr. O'Regan advised that Teleflex Medical is interested in possible relocation to
Mansfield. Information forwarded to town manager. A Mansfield brochure will be
forwarded to them.
The next meeting was set by agreement for April 29, 2004 at 7:30 PM. By unanimous
vote the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
