Old Business:
School Calendar
The School Committee reviewed the proposed calendar for the 2009 school year and
made minor changes to fine tune the finished product. It was decided that the school
year would begin a day earlier this year. In recent years the teachers have started the
year with two days of Professional Development. This year teachers they will have
one day of professional development before the start of the school year. The second
day will be held on November 4, 2008, Election Day. This will accommodate the
Town and the voters. By decreasing the congestion associated with school being in
session. It also addresses the issue of safety for all parties.
The question was raised as to which of the Jewish holidays, Rosh Hashanah or Yom
Kippur, would be taken off in October. A call will be made to the Temple for
clarification.
High School Sign:
Mr, Michael Trowbridge announced that the application for the electric sign at the
high school will be presented to the ZBA on March 4"'. The ZBA was waiting for a
written report from Safety Officer Lance Lawson. We have written affirmation from
Officer Lawson that he has reviewed the area and has no concerns for the safety of
the public.
The School Committee will require that a written Policy be prepared and brought
forward to the Committee for approval with a complete set of guidelines and
restrictions regarding the usage of the sign.

High School Modular Buildings update:
Mr. Edward Vozzella gave an update on the status of the MHS Modular Classrooms.
Mr. Vozzella stated that through the assistance of Roxanne Donovan, Town
Treasurer, they secured additional funding for a total of $825,000. The Architectural
firm of KBA will begin running an ad the week of February 27`h to open up the
project to bids. All proposals will be submitted by March. Once a decision is made,
it will take approximately 10 days to 2 weeks to sign the contract. Once that is
complete the modular units will be ordered. Currently a number of Towns are
ordering modulars as opposed to all new construction. At this point, we are already
running a month behind.
High School Principal Search:
The Search Committee met today to begin the second phase to appoint the next high
school principal. There was a good response to the new search with a strong pool of
candidates from which to choose. Six applicants have been chosen to go forward in
the search process. The next phase will begin the last week of February and the first
week of March. The new High School Principal should be named by the end of
March.
