Vinnie DiIorio, Jr. advised MBC members at a previous meeting (June 2005) that fees for inspection service and final As -Built Drawings are included in his design costs. LITIGATION UPDATE Qualters Middle School (Town of Mansfield vs. R. Vogel, D. Freeman and R. Ashton) • A "Motion for Summary Judgment" previously filed by the defendants in the window claim, is scheduled to be heard on Thursday, July 21, 2005. Deposition of Michael Brait is rescheduled for Monday, July 18, 2005 at 2:00 PM. MBC's remaining project balance from the original Police Station Project is $597.39 (as of May 21, 2005). MBC discussed using these funds toward ongoing remedial coordinated work by the Public Buildings Manager to fix the failed flooring and cabinets. MANSIFIELD SCHOOL DEPARTMENT School Feasibility Study —Based on a report from David Young, the Feasibility Study Committee is currently working with DRA to finalize (2) building design options, which could address future school and community building needs. Due to the future financial impact to community, David Young has strongly urged School Superintendent Moretti and others on that Committee, to present both options to the Town's residents and let the taxpayers decide which one to choose. School Superintendent Moretti is hoping to have the final building design options complete for presentation at the Special Fall Town Meeting later this year. The Feasibility Study Committee is planning to schedule open public hearings sometime in the next couple of months. Design Option 1: Minimal School Program Needs, includes addition of 22 classrooms at MHS, as well as modifications to the library area, front entrance, lobby, gym, wellness, and music rooms. This option would require the existing field hockey field to be relocated in order to create additional parking, and also adds a nine -bay maintenance garage near the parking area. In light of future garage facilities already planned for a new DPW facility, Member Young does not support the school's recommendation to include a nine -bay maintenance garage at the school site. Plans were made previously by the School Dept. to install (4) modular classrooms behind the Qualters Middle School. As of this date, the School Department has not determined what academic programs will be held in these classrooms and the portable units are not installed. (Funding to rent the modular classrooms was approved at the Annual Town Meeting in May 2005.) Design Option 2: Community /School Program — implementation of this option expands space in the main office, guidance, and nurse's area at Mansfield High School and relocates the front entrance for more direct access. This option offers community use through the addition of a cable access studio and drama/theater. MBC School Project Budgets — MBC Secretary reported project balances for the following MBC projects as of May 21, 2005; Robinson School, MHS Additions/Renovations, MHS Track/Field, QMS Additions /Renovations and Locker Room Modifications. FISHER - RICHARDSON HOUSE MBC received a request for access to the building from Claire Dempsey and Tom Paske on July 27, 2005. MBC Secretary will coordinate access to the site with the appropriate Town staff. As of May 21, 2005, the MBC currently maintains a balance of $8,776.57 for the historical restoration project. Task items to complete include replacement of a rear plywood door & upgrade to the existing electrical service. MBC needs to approach Historical Commission. MBC to request to be scheduled on future agenda Frank Noonan of the Massachusetts Historical Commission requested the MBC provide proof of the Architect's final certification. A copy of this information was forwarded to Mr. Noonan as requested. Meeting agenda 8:45 PM. Respectfully submitted, Eleanor McCarter, Secretary Richard I Feeley, Clerk Date
