Facility Ton - Bill Moore and Julie Hunter attended a recent open house tour of the Public
Works Highway garage facility and Fire Station.
Julie Hunter offered comments based on her observations:
• Existing working conditions in the highway garage are deplorable. Building
improvements are necessary.
• HVAC equipment failed recently creating a problem with diesel fumes in the garage.
Funding for temporary HVAC improvements were approved by the Capital
Improvements Plan Committee, and the HVAC repair is now complete.
• Increasing security for equipment storage such as vehicle parts, small tools, etc. is
recommended.
• Construction of a future garage space to house vehicles and heavy equipment inside may
be considered to increase the life of the equipment, although additional square footage for
construction costs would be higher.
• Mansfield Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has a larger fleet of vehicles than
expected.
• North Main Street Fire Station facility is inadequate to serve the needs of the department.
• Ken Gay added that the Town should consider being more "Green" conscious in future
construction projects to be more environmentally friendly.

lower costs to operate. He will share more information about this topic at our next MBC
