Dept.) The meeting opened at 6:00 pm at the Mansfield Town Hall Future Meeting Schedule: Meeting Minutes: Updates for School Projects Last week testing on the High School gym wall came back positive for 10% asbestos in the plastic. One solution is to take out the soap. The soap would not be taken out of the north and south walls. Other solution is if they do not take the plastic out, they can undo the slots in the block. Just taking the insulation down would be a lot cheaper. (The worst case scenario is taking the insulation down, the plastic down and scraps it.) This would delay the project by about 4 weeks. The suggested plan is to take all the insulation out on the east and west walls. This needs to be done by an asbestos contractor and it will be done much faster as long as we do not scrap the plastic. There is a structural steel solution that is not cutting the slats in the walls but reinforcing existing columns and put guards across. Hopefully, this will reduce the span of the wall from 34 feet to 10 feet which would fall within code. They are a going to build a steel frame on two sides and tie the wall to the steel frame. The insulation will be between the frame and the box. This will be minimal containment. The steel boxes will blend in. The existing insulation is 2 inches thick. Steelworkers and masons will be doing the work. MBC asks the timeframe of this work. Walter Parker says girls volley ball can be played in the QMS gym and he will get a copy of their schedule from Joe Russo. Everyone thinks this is a good solution. By the time they take everything down, contain, remove containment and clean up the containment, this would be the best solution. Maureen Doherty will talk to Ed Vozella about some decisions that will need to be made with the School Department. A decision will need to be made soon. The structural engineer explains the insulation goal by the column. The columns will be 5x5. The building inspector will need to be updated on the changes. There will be conceptual design plans for the meeting on Tuesday. Walter Parker will get the environmentalists on board.
