OLD BUSINESS
FY' 12 Budget / District Priorities
The Superintendent met with the district principals and administrators to prioritize the staffing and
programmatic needs for FYI 2. Mrs. Hodges had a document, for each member of the Committee, that
ranked these priorities. It was the recommendation of the Superintendent to begin the process of determining
staffing and programs that will be moved forward as part of the FY' 12 Budget. Mrs. Hodges stated that it is
our intention to try and add back necessary teachers and programs, especially at the Middle School. It will
not get us back to where we were before all the cuts were made, but it will be a good start. Mrs. Hodges
noted that we have now reached a place that we are unable to provide the educational services that Mansfield
has been accustomed to. The School Committee, along with the Superintendent, went down the list of
priorities. Mrs. Miller wanted to discuss the full day Kindergarten. Mrs. Miller felt that there was too much
going on right now and did not want to displace the Little Hornet Program, and personally did not want to
go forward with the all day Kindergarten Program. Mr. Pent' echoed Mrs. Miller's questions and concerns
about being capable of reaching the entire targeted group that would most likely need the full day of
kindergarten and that we do not have sufficient space for the program and agreed that he too would not like
to go forward with the all day kindergarten. Mr. Trowbridge agreed. Mr. DelVecchio had concerns about
having a pilot program that can't be offered to the full system and eliminating a program, such as the Little
Hornet's, that all the staff appreciates. Mrs. Losiewicz stated she really liked the Little Hornet's Program
and had no interest in harming that program. She was fully in support of starting a full day kindergarten
because she could see the educational value of any child in a full day kindergarten and that it was a win, win
situation for all. She was in full support of the all day kindergarten.
Chairman Michael Trowbridge asked for a motion regarding the full day kindergarten.
Mrs. Miller made a motion to delete the Pro2ram. 2'a by Mr. Jim Perry.
Motion U. C. 5 - 0
The Committee continued on with the priority list for the budget

Common Core Standards. Representatives from Houghton Mifflin- Harcourt's Go Math land Pearson/Scott
Foresman's en VisionMATH provided an overview of these two elementary math programs that are aligned
to the Common Core State Standards. It was noted that we are following the timeline that was outlined
earlier in the year and that this professional development time served a critical need for our faculty and staff.
FY'12 School Calendar Survey:
The calendar survey was distributed via school messenger to some of the parents and to all staff members.
Custodians, food service and para professionals were included with the survey closing March 18, 2011. The
results will be tallied and available by early next week.
