02035.

Others Present: Jenn Carlino, Norton Conservation Agent
Call to Order — The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by Wayne Southworth.
A moment of silence was held in memory of Fred Watson. Committee members recalled Fred as
a great guy and a good and loyal member of the CRAAC, who accomplished many great things
for the Town of Norton.
II. Review Minutes of October 5, 2006 — Leonard Flynn motioned to accept the minutes of
October 5, 2006 as written. Bob Boette seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously
accepted.
111. Open Space Map & Greenbelt Update
Leonard Flynn said that he continues to contact owners along the Canoe River to make them
aware of the Committee's interest in preserving land alongside the river. Federal and State
money is still available. The National Resources Trust recently accepted an open space plan that
abuts two other town properties. There is a residential compound under consideration in
Mansfield located off Williams Street and along the Wading River. Dave Masciarelli said that a
acre piece of a 3 acre parcel that abuts King Phillip's Rock in Sharon is being considered for
acquisition at Town Meeting. This property contains a rock that lines up in formation with King
Phillip's Rock. Fred Martin brought this property to the attention of the Committee back in
September of 2003.
Wayne Southworth commended Leonard Flynn and Jenn Cariino for their tireless efforts on
adding to the greenbelt area. This type of work does not come quickly. L. Flynn agreed that it
requires patience for these things to come to fruition.
Jenn Carlino requested that members resubmit their letters of support for the ACEC, because it
has been a long time since they were last written.
IV. CRAAC.org Website Photos
The Easton Water Division has picked up the cost of setting up the web site. Jack Marsh has
been very cooperative and has been willing to set this up at no cost. John Fresh will be taking
pictures of each member. A brief biography will be Included. Members are asked to submit
biographical information to Wayne. The website will include photos, minutes and annual reports,
along with other information. John Fresh will find some good photos from the open house to
Include on the site.
V. 20th Anniversary Event
Jenn Carlino began the effort, along with Wayne Southworth and Ed Tartufo, of trying to secure
the TPC Golf Club as the location for the 20th Anniversary event. Jenn Carlino and Wayne
Southworth, as well as Jack Marsh, were able to meet with Jim O'Mara, the General Manager of
the club, for approximately one hour. He made it clear that he wanted to host the event. He
stated that he did not want cost to get in the way, after Wayne Southworth made it clear that the
CRAAC has no money. Mr. O'Mara was never specific about what it would cost them and
suggested that some vendors may want to make donations. The event would need to be held off-
season (January through March or November through December). W. Southworth felt that either
late March or early November would work best. His only concern was the short timeframe for
getting it ready by March. Jenn Canino felt confident that all preparations could be done in time
for a March event. The facility would be available for a Friday night, which has been a good night
in the past for peak attendance. The facility is top- notch.
Cost per plate, at best estimate, would probably run about $30 to $50. W. Southworth said that
he would hope to be able to secure several sponsors before the event, so that the cost can go
down. After some discussion, CRAAC members felt that it would be best to charge a fee,
probably around $25, for each attendee. This would bring down the cost, and would also help to
get an accurate head count on the number of people attending. People make it a point to show
up to something for which they have already paid. W. Southworth said that the President of the
Bank of Easton has committed $500 to the event. The number of people who will be attending
the event should be determined before the cost is determined. W. Southworth reviewed the
mailing list. He said that present and past members, as well as State Representatives and
Senators who have been involved with the CRAAC will be invited. D. Masciarelli suggested
Inviting people who had sold some of their property to the greenbelt area. L. Flynn thought a
member of the Conservation Commission and Board of Selectmen from each member community
should be invited. W. Southworth said that it looks like 50 to 100 people will probably attend. He
would like to send out a lot of invitations in order to better publicize the event.
Members could be honored with plaques. Perhaps Dave Terry, Kathy Baskins or Gary Moran
could be asked to speak. Ed Tartufo suggested asking Bill Keating to speak. It was also
suggested that six or seven people could speak briefly about the CRAAC, rather than having one
or two main speakers. W. Southworth will work on preparing a master invitation list for review by
CRAAC members.
After discussion, it was felt that either March 23, 2007 or March 30, 2007 would be the best target
dates for the event. The CRAAC would like more specific information on the cost of using the
TPC facility before committing to using it. The facility holds about 80 -100 people.
CRAAC members were asked to think about cost, a date for the event, and speakers for the
event, and to bring their Ideas to the next meeting. It would be best to get the invitation out early,
hopefully by early January.
John Fresh suggested having photos continually running in the background during the event.
Jack Marsh could probably coordinate the photos to music.
VI. New Business
The next meeting of the CRAAC will take place on December 7, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Norton
Library.
VII. Meeting Adjourned
W. Southworth accepted a motion from,Bob Boette to adjourn the meeting.: L. Flynn seconded
the motion. The Committee voted unanimously to adjourn its meeting. The meeting adjourned at
1:58 P.M.
