The Animal Welfare Committee met on December 7 at the Town Hall. Two of the three
members were present to establish a quorum. Also attending the meeting were Mike Lattari
and Kristine Hunter who are waiting to be sworn in as members of the committee; shelter
volunteers Suzanne Berry and Tara DeVeau; and Assistant Town Manager Chris Marion.
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Marion, the AWC financial account has been brought up to date
and outstanding funds have been added to the account. Approximately $550 from the
Mansfield Women of Today's Family Pet Day event was deposited to the account on 12/6.
The outstanding balance of $117.02 at the Mansfield Animal Hospital was paid in full and
Linda Sohn was reimbursed $302 for animal care expenses. Volunteers Berry and DeVeau
were reimbursed ($225 each) for rabies shots.
Receipts from a third volunteer for rabies shots were submitted for reimbursement. A letter
will be sent to Health Agent Leite requesting that he add funds to future budgets (about
$1400) to cover the reimbursement of rabies shots by volunteers.
The committee discussed having a new front door and a dusk -to -dawn light installed (outside
the front door) — this will be addressed in a letter to Chief O'Neill. The volunteers also
inquired about replacing the old washing machine that is used to wash blankets and towels.
We agreed to spread the word about having a newer and larger model donated.
Work continues on a list of short- and long -term goals. These goals were identified as shelter
operating items, special projects and items that require committee action. Teams of AWC
members and volunteers will be set up to work on the items.
We set Thursday, January 25, 1996, at 7:30 p.m. (Town Hall) as the next Committee meeting.
