The Animal Welfare Committee met on January 25 at the Town Hall. All six members were
present to establish a quorum. Also attending the meeting were shelter volunteers Connie
DeVeau and Tara DeVeau.
The committee only needs one more member to reach the prescribed number of seven
members; two residents indicated an interest in joining.
Two deposits ($810 and $415) were made into the financial account in late December and
early January; this money is from adoptions, abandonments and from the spay /neuter
program. Volunteer Sharon Brodeur was reimbursed $225 for her series of rabies shots.
Currently, there is $200 in the spay /neuter fund, $719.98 in the veterinary care fund, and
$28,529.07 in the new shelter fund.
A letter from a Foxboro attorney was read to the AWC indicating a bequest of $5,000 from the
estate of a Foxboro woman to the Mansfield Animal Shelter. Chairman Miller. has signed the
appropriate papers and should receive the money in the near future.
The volunteers reported that a Town workman showed up at the Shelter to repair the light
outside the front door — only to be told that there was no light and our request was to have
one installed. A new sink was installed in the dog room and a countertop will be added by
the volunteers. Because of the lack of space, we are looking at using the empty room in the
Shelter building. A used washer and dryer were donated and the washer has been installed
and is working well. The dryer was put into storage as a back -up to the existing one.
The volunteers are planning to sponsor a flea market in June as a fund - raiser for a new
shelter. Money collection cans also will be distributed to local businesses as an on -going
effort for the same purpose.
We set Thursday, February 22, 1996, at 7:30 p.m. (Town Hall) as the next Committee
meeting.
